I heard that if you play for 16 hours you will have corrupted data. But if you close your 3ds for a certain amount of hours will those hours count?

Yeah. That's not true. Wherever or whoever you got that from is either stupid of misinformed.

Prob not, corruptions don't happen alot, if you want to, turn your DS off during saving, but it is really rare

Well, considering that I've played at least fifty hours, I can add my confirmation that this rumour is false.

Corruptions happen rarely and at random, and certainly not at a certain hour mark.

That makes no actual sense. Plenty of people here have been playing for longer than 16 hours. I don't know how many hours I've played for but it's probably higher than that. Otherwise, you'd only be able to play the game for a bit over two weeks if you were playing one hour per day.

If you mean playing 16 hours in a row, that sounds a lot to me and I don't want to find out but it doesn't make much sense that leaving it on would cause that. The most I can think of is that playing for a long amount of time in a row could mean that when you saved, the game was saving a lot of data at once but I don't think that's actually the case and seems a bit random though if you want to be extra safe just save every few hours (that's probably sound advice in any case though). I've read threads in which people have mentioned leaving their game on for a whole day while their character gets a tan or something.

Game corruption has a lot of reasons but I don't think it's related to play time. Maybe someone once played for 16 hours and their game got corrupted but if this were a thing that happens constantly we would have heard about this by this point. Some things that can cause corruption include damaging the cartridge, trying to have two digital copies in the same device, switching off your game during saving, etc.
