I got Marshal from an Amiibo card but his storage was full of clothes?

If I get a villager from an Amiibo card, shouldn’t they be a brand-new (original) villager?

I looked in Marshal’s storage (it was through a safe he had in his house) and he had tons of clothes in his storage that I never gave him. He had so much clothing, that every time I looked inside, it showed different items. And yes, this was a brand-new Marshal invited via Amiibo card.

So... what gives?

it's probably a glitch. i've found clothes in my own marshal's fridge (lmao) that i've never given him. i've also never seen him wear them around either so i'm pretty sure it might be one of this game's many glitches.

Does this imply that when you give characters clothes they put them in the storage in their house? Or do they display them like furniture?
Because someone in my island displays all the clothes the other villagers give her, so I didn't know it'd go in your storage.

It was in the storage, not displayed in the house like furniture.

On second thought I actually think it might be. Thanks, I think that’s whats happening! That’s still a weird glitch...

This. It happens sometimes when I check their wardrobes/dressers. The clothes end up being theirs or another villager’s.

Yup, it seems like it's some weird glitch. I've had this happen with my amiibo villagers, and it's always another villager's clothes. Luckily though, they never wear the random clothes in their storage, so they're still original.
