Hunting for New villagers question!!!

Tammy has asked to move out of my town today, I’m planning on island hunting for a new villager, can I start hunting and invite someone when she’s in boxes? Or do I have to wait until she has totally left and there is an empty plot?

As far as I know, you need an actual empty plot before villagers will start appearing on your mystery islands

You have to wait until there’s an empty plot, I’ve tested this before.
