In New Leaf, I named my character Ray Jay since that's what my wife calls me instead of Raymond. In New Horizons, I knew I wanted to have Raymond on my island so that was just another reason to name myself Ray Jay again as I didn't want there to be any confusion when talking to the other villagers.

. That's just my nickname that my wife calls me. She only calls me that because my middle initial starts with a J and that letter rhymes with Ray.Marshmallows

The J can match the bird named Jay, so technically he does have a name match. And though Tammi’s birthday got moved, for a long time it used to be April 1st. The closest namesakes to you are Alice, Alli, and Elise, so you could get one of the three.

I once thought of trying to get villagers who's names match my friends and mine, at least partially. Doesn't work for everyone though :/
My name is Phillip (whoops did I just put that online?) and one of my first book mile island runs gave me Phil, so I felt like it was fate. I don't go by Phil myself, but it's fun (and also a little confusing) having him on the island.
Another thing I thought of was paying homage to my grandparents with versions of their names. Walt, Celia, and Bob all fit nicely for Walter, Cecelia, and Robert, but I don't think there are any villagers that would work for my other grandma, Adelle. Maybe Ellie? Idk.
