amiibo scans are the worst to plot reset. the worst!! twiggy kept plotting in this One Spot that wasn't ON my path but like.. if she were to actually move in, it would remove the pattern in front of her door!!!!! it was so annoying!! i'm not sure how many times i plot resetted for her to go somewhere else that i had designated for move-ins... another amiibo scan, grizzly, moved in Directly on a path, but it was a 1x1 string of patterns.. i'm guessing that makes a difference??
anyway, i got molly from a friend and she was the easiest and the BEST to plot reset for!!! she at first insisted on this one spot that would, again, nullify the pattern in front of her door... but she eventually plotted in this designated area i had outlined in patterns. it was so great!!
some things i've noticed about how move-ins treat patterns
- they've never plotted directly on my 2x2 paths
- they've plotted on an area where i had a single pattern & a 1x1 string of patterns
- they don't plot directly on your 2x2 paths but might plot right in front of them, nullifying the pattern in front of their door
- if you bar areas you don't want to be plotted on with patterns and make "designated plots" with patterns, they will easily move into those designated areas (if they're from another town, not an amiibo scan)

underlined x's denote non-path patterns i used to designate specific "plots"; bolded x's are my path
^ this is where molly moved in after i put patterns around town!!
