Don't you think it's lovely how villagers differ from one another? Yes, there are only 8 personalities, and they - for the most part - stick to their assigned dialogues.. But I personally have found that certain specific villagers do act different. For example, I have three smugs in my town of Araxos. Three. Hippeux, Quillson, and Keaton. But they're all different from one another, and not just in the looks department. Quillson is shy in my town, he's quiet and sticks to himself for the most part. Hippeux is incredibly flamboyant and friendly and knowledgeable; while Keaton is very humble, generous, sweet, and concerned. And call me a weirdo, but isn't it also interesting that each individual player of this game has certain villagers they love, hate, like, and dislike? I've realized these feelings can be boiled down to a couple determining factors. Nostalgia, Experiences, Looks, and Preference.

I'll demonstrate the above factors using Monique and Stitches as examples.

Nostalgia
You love Monique. She was in your very first AC:PG town back in the day, and she always knew how to make you crack up! After those long days at school, coming home to unwind and play AC:PG was your favorite thing to do- and seeing Monique was the icing on the cake. You can't seem to get why others don't like her.

You hate Stitches because he has been in every single one of your AC towns to date. You get the hype- he's cute. But you are so done with him. You just want a different batch of villagers, you want a change.

Experiences
You hate Monique because in your AC:NL town, she moved in right on top of your blue rose garden that took you months to grow. Ugh! What a jerk! On top of that, she's always trying to sell you her tasteless items at ridiculous prices!! Move out already!!

You dislike Stitches because he used to scare you in AC:WW when he was in your town. He reminds you of a scary movie you once saw that included a creepy teddy bear with no eyes! Ahhh! Get him away! /)w(\

Looks
You like Monique because she is based off Marilyn Monroe. You love the fact that she isn't seen often in most towns. What a beaut!

You love Stitches because he looks like the teddy bears your grandma used to hand-make for you and your siblings. Aww grammy..♥

Preference
You dislike snooties in general, and Monique is not an exception. It's not that she's bad.. it's just there are so many others that you like much more. ..So many others that are not snooties.

You like popular villagers! You can't help it! You feel as though you have accomplished something magical when you acquire one. So having Stitches would be a dream!

---------------------

Take these two jocks for example.
175px-Buck_NL.png
200px-Pierce_NL.png

Buck & Pierce
Buck's looks give him a more aggressive tone, a more serious complexion. He's more rugged and looks like more of a cranky than a jock.
Pierce doesn't have the menacing eyebrows that Buck has, he has more of a silly, playful look. His bright colors may make him more appealing to those that like the bright.

---------------------

So what do you guys think? Are your dreamies based off the 4 factors above? And how so? Do you disagree, agree, or are indifferent about what I'm saying here?

I can't be the only one who finds this variety so interesting. Dreamies are just that- dreams you have, for your reasons. You owe NO ONE an explanation for why you want them. But this is a nice place to discuss why you like/dislike/love/hate certain villagers.

This is very insightful~ Just want to commend you on how well thought out this is~
Let's see...

Nostalgia: New Leaf is actually my first game. A lot of people told me to play Animal Crossing growing up, but I was always playing Harvest Moon a lot and I always said I couldn't divide my time like that. I'm still a Harvest Moon fanatic, but with the lack of a Wii U title and Animal Parade having run its course for the time being, I decided to try New Leaf.

However, while I lack Nostalgia for these animals now, I'm sure when the next Animal Crossing title hits the shelves I will be excited to reunite with villagers from my current town. I have a huge love for nostalgic things so I know it will definitely play a part when I see my villagers in the new game and I will definitely be inviting them back!

Experiences: Despite how much I have whined and moaned about Wolfgang costing me 30m when he decided to squat in my town FAR LONGER THAN HE WAS INTENDED TO......
I won't hold it against him. Mostly because I recognize that it's the game mechanics doing all this and these cute little animals really don't mean any harm. As much as it sucks when a plot lands on something treasured, I blame Tom Nook for letting them plot there in the first place ewe. However, on the flip side, and delightfully hypocritical note, I always remember the good experiences and will be quite fond of any animal who gives me something happy to remember. So I won't blame them for the bad but the good is obviously all them! Haha.

Looks: They definitely do play a part, especially if you're going for a theme or a certain color scheme. Or maybe you want a town full of kittehs. I will normally drift towards animals who are more aesthetically pleasing to me, but it doesn't stop me from befriending those who aren't. Lobo, Ankha, and Lucha really don't fit my aesthetic, yet they're my best friends and Lucha is even my favorite villager~ So while they play a part, they certainly aren't the big win. I also appreciate animals who look more unique (Ribbot, Lucky, and yes even Stitches) because they add a beautiful accent to whatever town you throw them into. While Ankha doesn't really fit my aesthetic, she's certainly very unique, and she and Kid Cat add a nice little accent to my town and it's part of the reason I adore them~

Preference: To be perfectly honest, I don't have much of a preference going into Animal Crossing. There's no personality I outright dislike. There's no species I outright dislike. The most I can say is that I generally prefer kitties, and that's why I have a few in my town, but I also like variety. The most I prefer is exactly that, really. Variety. I like having at least one of each personality in my town, and I accidentally got an equal number of male and female villagers as well. Not a big deal, but it's kinda fun to ship them haha.

Also, I get what you meant by having 3 Smugs who all act different. When I had Lobo and Wolfgang, Wolfgang seemed a TON more sociable than Lobo. Though this can also be attributed to Wolfgang moving between me and Shari, closer to the neighborhood, while Lobo lives off by his lonesome by my flower bed and park. I also had Julian move in, and his attitude compared to Lucha (another smug) was very different. Julian came off as kind of creepy, while Lucha came off as more endearing. Perhaps that was personal bias, but Lucha definitely worded his thoughts more eloquently than Julian~

Wow this is a super nice post ngl

I pick my dreamies off the fact that I have tried mostly everyone so I know what I like

my number 1 dreamie is Vesta the sheep bc She is very nostalgic- being in my very first animal crossing town

Other dreamies- like kid cat and pietro- just look super awsome
these 2 were my dreamies before I found out that they were pretty popular

the 7 are all random, Katt, scoot, pate, and 4 other sheep (muffy, willow, baabara, frita)
Katt and Pate have grown on me really. I dont know why I love them so much

Scoot is always fun to have a convo with idrk

the sheep are really cute not gonna lie :D

Nostalgia

Like Serif, New Leaf is actually my first Animal Crossing game. As a child, I played a lot of Pokemon and basically grew up surrounded by it, so I didn't really know what Animal Crossing was, and I never got into it as a child. I only got exposed and into Animal Crossing because I watched Chuggaaconroy play it and I immediately fell in love. Once I started playing, I couldn't put it down.

Experiences

I don't really hate anyone, but I would have to say I dislike Grizzly because he moved in on top of my perfect pear orchard, and that really ticked me off since it seemed like an unlikely place for a villager to move in since it was on a little narrow strip of land.

Also, I kinda dislike Pashmina. When she first moved into my town, she moved in near a bridge, so when I demolished it for a new one, she completely screwed me over. Isabelle wouldn't let me construct the new bridge there, and I hated her for a while. Thank goodness I got her out and now my shiny new bridge and I can exist in peace.

Looks

I think everyone has a certain aesthetic, and I'm no exception. I have a strong preference towards very good-looking villagers (I sound so shallow, lol) but I mean, c'mon. Is there actually anyone out there who likes Wart Jr.? I like cute and cool villagers, as well as food-themed villagers.

I have Zucker in my town, who I believe is based off a Japanese food. Can't remember the name off the top of my head.

I also have Merengue, who is obviously based off dessert.

I'm also looking for Tangy, who is based off an orange. Surprised she's not more popular, and hope I get her soon.

tldr; I love food-based animals, probably because I love food lmao.

Preference

For some reason, I cannot stand jocks. I got Kid Cat in my campsite and he was pretty top tier, so I invited him in. There had to be some reason that people like him, right? Wrong. (for me at least.) I don't know what's wrong with me; I just hate jock villagers.

I think I have a strong preference towards normal villagers, seeing as I have 3.

Mines over looks. I only keep the villagers that I think are cute.

Nostalgia:
My first game was WW, I had Purrl, Olivia, Stitches, Agent S, Monique and other villagers who I don't remember. Purrl and Stitches have appeared in every one of my AC games to date, I had Stitches as a starter in my current town. The only one out of the 5 who is on my dreamie list is Olivia, this is because:

1. Purrl and Stitches stalk me. It began to annoy me.
2. I found Agent S a bit boring.
3. I don't want 4 snooty villagers in my town, 3 being cats.

Kitty appeared in my CF town, she is in my CF right now (I hope at least). She was my favourite villager in CF, I also met Chrissy and Francine in CF. Chrissy is also in my CF town right now (I also hope at least).

Experience:
The rest of my dreamies I had in previous NL towns (I reset), except Julian and Fauna, Julian being a random move in and I met Fauna in friends towns. I also met Bruce in a friends town.
Cherry was a random move-in in a previous town, she was also a random move-in in my current town, I didn't like her at first.

Looks:
I like villagers who are cute, but not too cute. I didn't know whether I wanted Fauna or Marina, I chose Fauna because I found Marina cuter and because she is pink (I don't like pink much).

Preference:
My favourite villager personality is snooty. I have one of each type of villager, but 3 snooty villagers. This is probably because, if I were a villager, I would be a snooty villager. My favourite species would probably be cats or deer. There's no personality I dislike and I like having at least 1 villager of each personality.

I think it's all of those things that create my dreamie list.

Nostalgia
I've only played two games from the entire series: Wild World and New Leaf since they both were on ds / 3ds. Stitches was the very first villager who became friends with and gave his picture in wild world. I was so happy. He told me he loved me at some point. I celebrated Christmas with him and he visited me on my birthday. I got the game a few weeks before my birthday. When Stitches visited me on my birthday, I was the happiest kid ever. I became friends with Kabuki before I stopped playing a brought New Leaf so that was special and I still can't make up my mind whether I want him in my New Leaf town or not. Since I used to play with my sister, she was so obsessed with Rosie because of how adorable she was. Because of this, I also am in love with Rosie and I would have her in my town if I didn't have more peppy villagers in my current town.

Experiences
I've only every picked up Sylvia from somebody's void. I don't feel like I could ever love this villager. We don't have any good memories and neither do I plan to build on this. Other villagers like Henry and Cherry I never particularly liked at first. Like, they're alright, but they're not like some villagers where you just fall in love at first sight or hate. After living with the fact that they're in my town and I can't be bothered getting rid of them, I've grown to love these villagers. Henry is super cute. I love smugs and he's no exception. I enjoy talking to him and I never would have thought that I would actually like this villager but well, it happened. Same with a lot of other villagers that I've just come to like. A lot of people don't like Tabby because of her design, but she's a ice cat to talk to and I like her. She's not a dreamie though. Looks are important to some extent.

Looks
This is important when looking for dreamies. I'm not going to deny that the level of cuteness determines who's in my dreamie list. Cherve is an adorable villager. I love her and she is also a dreamie of mine but this also clashes with Nostalgia since I had her and Nan in Wild World town. I like some of the more unique looking villagers like Tia. Although they may be cute, I don't particularly like the boring normal villagers that look exactly like their specie should like Dotty, Ruby and Molly. They don't interest me. Drago was considered a dreamie at some point because like Julian he's kind of a unique species in the game although he is considered a Alligator but we all know he's a dragon and that's what I love about him. Julian is unique, he's a unicorn and he doesn't really have an eye. Well he does, it's just nothing but white and he mostly keeps his eyes closed because he's fabulous like that.

Preferences
I don't like having a lot of popular tier one villagers so unfortunately, even with how cute he is and how much I love lazy villagers, Stitches is not going to be living in my town of Rosedale. The only popular villager that is going to live in my town is Julian because why wouldn't you want an adorable villager of your favourite animal living in your town? I love unicorns. That's just me. But not the normal girly pink, farting rainbows unicorns. Long haired fabulous male unicorns are my style. That's exactly what Julian is. So of course I'm inviting him to my town. Pandas are also my favourite animal, I also love lazy villagers and so Chester is staying in my town. I prefer some of the newer villagers that New Leaf introduced and some City Folk too since I never played that and they're stilll new to me. I did want Diana at first but then after joining bell tree, her popularity kind of put me off.

Nostalgia:

Well I've played every single AC to date, and started playing the gamecube version at a young age, so this game means a lot to me. My most nostalgic villagers are Ava, Grizzly and Mitzi. I remember having them in my gamecube town so many years ago and I just had to have them in my town. They remind me of how much I love this game series, and all the good memories I have of playing it with my best friend when I was little.

Experience:

In my first ever NL town, I had Rodney the smug hamster. He moved in right behind my house, where I planned on putting a garden. Needless to say I have a quite decent dislike towards him over this. I had him in another town since then and made sure to get him out and moved, right away. Because of this, I've also not been very drawn to most of the hamsters. As you can see, I'm holding a grudge against them all because of silly Rodney ruining my idea like 2 years ago, lol

Looks:

I'm kind of split when it comes to picking villagers and dreamies just because of their looks. I'd say that Fauna probably falls into this part, for me. I love how she looks, she's so adorable and I have a weird attachment to deers. But she's the normal personality, which isn't my favorite. And in my last town that I had her in, I also had 3 other normals. I would love her so much more is she was peppy or uchi. But just because of her looks, is why she's a dreamie of mine.

Preferences:

I also really dislike the jock personality. Therefore, I've never had any in my previous town and will probably not have any in my current town. I really wanted Sly, till I realized he was a jock personality. They are just so bland and unrelatable. So I do prefer to not have any jocks. As said above, I have an attachment for deers so Fauna, Deirdre and Zell are dreamies of mine. I've considered doing an all deer town but decided against it. In past towns though, I always preferred to have at least one deer. They are just my favorite animal in NL and I'm so glad they got added in.

Thanks for posting this!

Honestly, I only base my dreamies off of looks.
All of my dreamies are in my town (or are soon to be in my town) because I think they're cute or cool or my sister thinks they're cute or cool.
When I look at a villager, I want to enjoy talking to them in my town, no matter what personality they are.

Nostalgia is the only other one that also helps me decide, but honestly it's probably the last thing I consider.

the Experience thing really depends on the person.
I thought Beau was super cute so I got him and when he moved in, he moved in right next to the path that leads down to the beach, and he destroyed my fruit trees and a couple bushes.
I did not want to move him out because I wanted him really badly, so instead, I changed up that whole area.
The paths to his house are kinda awkward but I have learned to deal with it.

If it was a random move in that I thought was kinda cute, I would move them out.

I think Preferences is probably the least important thing.
There are only 8 types of speech you will encounter from villagers but 10 slots to fill (or 9 if you choose so)
I rarely look at the personalities of villagers because it really doesn't bother me.
It only bothers me if I end up having 10 normal villagers in my town because it just gets extremely repetitive and boring.
My least favourite personality type has to be Uchi for some reason, I don't have any of them in my town and I don't plan on having one of them in my town unless someone unexpectedly moves out.
My favourite personality type is Normal.
I only used this so that I would have diversity in my town.

As for the populartiy, I don't really look at it.
I was originally going to have Freckles in my town because of her being in my WW but Peppy is not really my favourite personality type.
I do have lots of Tier 1's in my town but that's because I think they are cute or cool looking, not because the community says that they're popular.
I'm not the person who hates on Tier 1's because they are the most popular.

I really wish I could vote for 2 of them because if I could, I would vote for experience and looks.
I don't have very much past experience with other AC games so nostalgia doesn't play a big part when I pick my dreamies.

I voted for experience because I would move out a villager that ruined my paths and bushes if I really wanted to, unless they're Beau ^^

Dreamies are just that- dreams you have, for your reasons. You owe NO ONE an explanation for why you want them.

You know what. Yes. That's a great line. I've been seeing this thread suddenly filled with all these ~villager hipsters~ and their frustrations with players who like tier 1/2 villagers. Whatever villagers people like, an explanation isn't necessary. Just like what you like, and do you. But alright, let me try this.

Nostalgia: I can't really comment on this factor because New Leaf was my first Animal Crossing game. I'd heard of it before, but really only knew that there were animals...and a town. That was it. I never really learned about the game until a while after New Leaf came out. So yeah, no nostalgic factor for me at all, but knowing that there have been so many AC games + returning villagers, I've been excited for the next one to come out, just to experience that nostalgia! Is that weird? Haha

Experiences: I actually...don't have any bad experiences. I haven't had any mishaps with villager resetting, which is a pain in of itself, but I've been lucky that they've always plotted in reasonable areas (i.e., nowhere near pwps that can't be demolished). Well, I had Cheri in my town for a while, simply because I was too lazy to villager reset and she was the first acceptable villager to show up. She plotted way too close to my mayor's house for my liking, but it was pretty easy to get her to move out. I also remember having Hans for a while. I tried the ignoring method to get him to move out quicker, and it definitely didn't work. It only prolonged his stay actually. He only asked to move after I befriended him. I didn't like how the smug voice sounded on him either. It didn't match. But besides that, I haven't had any issues with them landing on my hybrids.

Looks: Definitely the biggest factor for me with New Leaf. I lack any sort of nostalgia for any of the villagers considering it's my first AC game, so I decided to choose my "dreamies" based on cuteness. Popularity has nothing to do with it. For example, I didn't really get Merengue's appeal at first, but I saw her in someone's town for a let's play, and I was immediately interested. I feel the same about Chrissy. I thought she was sorta creepy at first, but I had her in my campsite once whilst villager resetting and was once again captivated. I guess things change when you see them in game.
For a different take, I had Freya in my town for a while (she's fairly popular isn't she?) Anyway, I liked her look, how pink she was, etc, but she never clicked with me. I moved her out in the end and was able to villager reset for Beau.

Out of all of my villagers, I think 7/10 match my aesthetic, the 3 that don't being Cherry, Erik, and Bam. I know Erik's pretty popular, but I never tried to get him. He was my very first random move-in. I don't think he's that cute tbh, but I don't think I can bear to let him leave. Maybe this is my version of nostalgia? He's been in my town for a year and a half, so I just can't part with him. I keep Cherry for the same reason. And Bam, well, I want one of every personality in my town and he's the cutest jock.

Preference: I guess preferences I have now after playing the game for a while are that I really like peppy and smug villagers. Normal villagers are pretty fun too. But overall, I just really like cute (but interesting) looking villagers lmao. Shallow, I guess.

Oh man, this is gonna be a fun thread. :D

Nostalgia
The most nostalgia that I have with this game dates back to a few months ago, March to be specific. I never played Animal Crossing when I was little, so New Leaf was my first experience with the game. Going off of firsts, the first villager that I ever let move out of my original town was Baabara. Why? Just... didn't like her. Ugly design, unappealing personality, I just didn't care for her in my town so I happily let her go.

Fast forward to the beginning of July and my town reset. I start getting new move-ins to fill up my vacant slots. Some of the animals are ugly and meh but it's okay, new faces are great to see, ar-- why is Baabara back!?

She completely and randomly moved into my brand new town. 7th villager. I wanted her gone, immediately. Due to this, I have a really bad angry bias towards her and can't wait for her to get off my main street.

On the happier side of things, I also had a warm bias towards Mira and Benjamin in my old town, thus having them listed as my dreamies for my new town. I was able to love Mira despite her initially moving directly in front of my home, and Benjamin was such a sweet lazy lil puppy. I got lucky on Tumblr today and refreshed the page and the first post was acnladopt (which gives out free villagers) advertising someone giving away Mira, and I snatched her riiiight up.

Experiences
Oh Roald, I could've liked you.

I've told the story a dozen times so let's make this a dozen and one. Roald was a decent looking penguin villager whom decided to move into a space that blocked my bridge, was right in front of my rock and peach tree, and hella close to the river. Combine this terrible spot with the utter bitterness raging inside of me due to me knowing that Isabelle would throw a hissy fit if I DARED to put even a streetlamp anywhere near there, I just grew to loathe him.

Rudy is in this same position as well. I kept plot resetting after expecting a random move-in, but thought that maybe I was wrong and I wasn't getting one so I just loaded up my mayor. I walk around town only to discover that Rudy had not only plotted his house right next to mine and in between me and Poppy who is my sweet pea, but he also plotted it RIGHT ON TOP OF MY WHITE AND PINK COSMO GARDEN. I did some TT'ing and kicked his sorry butt out. Rest in pieces kid.

Appearance
I'm shallow as hell when it comes to the appearance of my characters, and I can't at all deny that appearance has factored into me disliking a character and just ignoring them or TT'ing them out. Groucho, for one thing, just looks like such an unappealing and grumpy old bear and seeing him on main street is just annoying.

I more or less fall in love with villagers for their appearance though then I do completely loathe them. Strangely enough, despite Hans' off-putting gorilla/yeti appearance, his droopy and consistently sad eyes made it impossible for me to want to part with him, and now he's one of my favorites! Poppy's adorable and somewhat realistic squirrel looks put her instantly on my dreamie list, and I regret nothing from that. Oh, and learning about the resemblance that Mira has to Sailor Venus and how she was likely specifically designed to be based off of her made me just love her even more.

Preference
Jocks and snooties I just cannot get into. Snooties aren't as bad as jocks, but considering that most of the snooties I've encountered have been pretty ugly (Baabara, Queenie, Mint to an extent, I hate her stupid brown hair fluff) I can't help but have a bit of an "ehh" attitude towards them. Jocks, on the other hand, just grate me. Something about the sound of their voice combined with their constant references to working out and sports (I hate sports) just makes me roll my eyes. Plus, "ladybro?" Get off of 4chan silly villager kids.

In contrast, there's something very endearing about smug and normal villagers for me. That's probably why I'm really fond of Poppy, Hans, Marshal, and Coco.

I love being able to have big discussions about my villagers and my preferences towards them like this, so thank you OP for the really interesting and fun thread!!

Nostalgia
My favorite character of all time would have to be Walker the dog because he was in my first town in wild world. Wild world was pretty much my first video game ever since my parents never got me video games when I was younger. Being my first game ever and first experience with animal crossing this character was my favorite. He was one of the original villagers when I first created my town and I was able to keep him in my town for 6 years. I was only playing the game everyday for so many years just to make sure he never left my town haha. Eventually I had to give him up because playing wild world everyday was becoming monotonous for me. I still really miss Walker and I always hope that I'll get him as a villager in the newer games. If I go to dream towns and see him I get all excited. He is just so cute and is one of my favorite personality types in the game as well.

Another character that I really love is Ricky the squirrel. He was one of my original villagers from my new leaf town. He is one of my other favorite personality types (Grumpy). Normally I don't like th squirrel characters but I just really liked him for some reason. I would constantly talk to him and even though he is grumpy he seemed like he cared for my character. Unfortunately he moved out when I took a short break from play new leaf but I still get to see him in Main Street from time to time.

Experiences
I have too many good experiences to mention but one bad one is that of Static the squirrel. Normally I wouldn't hate this character but he was just a bad reminder of a favorite villager that moved out. Since Ricky the squirrel was my favorite in new leaf, static was a sad and awful reminder. Ricky had moved out and I was devistated but the next villager to move in was static and right in the exact same spot Ricky was in. It was just too soon to have another grumpy squirrel in the exact spot where Ricky was. Every time I see him I am reminded that Ricky is gone. I even accidentally call static by Ricky's name, but he can never replace my Ricky.

Looks
I really like the wolf villagers. In particular Wolfgang and Kyle. They just look so cool and not to mention my favorite animal is wolves. I also like the spiky hair they have and how most of them are grumpy villagers. I like the darker colored wolves because I like pure black wolves the best.

I also like most of the dog villagers because after wolves, dogs are my next favorite animal. They all look so cute and especially Walker since he is my favorite of all time.

Preference
I have always preferred the grumpy and lazy villagers the best. I like the lazy ones because I am kinda lazy myself and I like food like they do haha. I think I would get along with them the best if I really lived in their town. They also don't like to excersize a lot just like me haha.

As for the grumpy villagers, I love the whole mean on the outside and nice on the inside kind of thing. They act all rough and tough but if you become friends with them they tell you that you are their only friend or closest friend. It just seems like when you become friends with them it is truly genuine and unbreakable.

Man, what a great topic. I guess for me, it'd be a mix of Looks,Experiences, and Preference. There isn't much nostalgia for me, since I never really played any of the other games. The closest thing I get to nostalgia is my first town on ACNL.

Looks: This is how it usually starts. I'll like the way a character looks and I'll want them in my town. I haven't been as picky lately - a fair number of villagers actually look pretty good - but there are some with whom I just LOVE the design. Ankha is one of those characters. Her egyptian pharoah design just caught my eye, and I decided I wanted her. On the other hand, some villagers just look soo bad, that I'd never be able to enjoy having them in my town, regardless of preferences or experience.

Preference: Like Ankha, Merengue has a unique look to her as her horn is instead a strawberry. There are a bunch of villagers like this, but I don't like all of them. Though Merengue's design is unique, I'm not fond of the model for the Rhinos. Cows, Bulls, Elephants, and Gorillas are the same way. They're just too bulky. There are some exceptions, but most of the time I just don't like them. I do tend to prefer cats or other small critters, as I feel they suit the atmosphere of AC a little more, though I guess that depends on the type of town you make and if there's a theme to it or not. I tend to sway toward cute villagers more than anything else.

Experience: Though my past experiences are limited, I do have some experience with a few different villagers. Take Mallary for instance. I don't like her for the simple fact that she moved in on top of my Perfect Apple orchard right next to my house. It doesn't help that I don't like the duck model to begin with, but doing that just made me HATE her. Experience can also change my opinion of a villager. Ankha is an example of this. Though her design is great and her snooty personality suits her, the one thing I don't like about her is how she NEVER SMILES. She's always wearing that frown, even when she's supposed to be doing happy emotes/faces. I sorta feel like it's a design flaw, and if she smiled like the others I probably would have loved her. But the lack of smiling bothers me, even if she is happy it just looks off. =/

Another issue I have with picking villagers is that I like to have a balance in my town. I like having at least 1 of each personality type, so that I don't miss out on the PWPs that they offer. Though I'm beginning to think that maybe I don't need all of them. There are very few smug villagers that I like, and they don't really offer any PWPs that I really feel that I HAVE TO HAVE or anything, so I may pass up on a smug next time. :)

Anyway, that pretty much sums up how I pick my dreamies. This was fun to answer! Thanks for making this topic. :)

I base my dreamies off of looks which for the most part works out for me because most of them are lower tiers.
