How to sell or trade flowers?

When people open up there island and/or create a thread to trade/sell flowers, is there any way to make the process happen other then having the other player be your best friend?

What I meant is, if you want 10 lilies from me, how do you collect them?

I'm not able to drop them on the ground, which leads me to assume you have to be allowed to use a shovel on my island.

Hence, if I am not mistaken, you have to be given best friend access in order to use tools on another players island
