how to replace clothes with furniture

i've been sending furniture to my villagers but they just keep the furniture with their current furniture..and yes, i buy furniture that are the same size as the clothes

Talk to your villagers a lot and when they invite you to their house, accept it.. When yoh are inside their house keep talking to them until they ask you if you like something in their house.. Tell them yes and buy the shirts/clothes didplayed in the house

Usually its about once a day if you're lucky.

I wouldn't give up on sending furniture to them though. It does work, but only occasionally.
