In a lot of the newer and younger members, I see a lack of knowledge about posting. Not post quality, just downright pointless and out of place posts, and this stuff, especially when it happens constantly, gets on my nerves. I'm not gonna say any names, but there are definitely some members I want to see this!
Here are some ground rules to think about before you post
1.) Is it meaningful? Are you contributing the the conversation at all with this post?
2.) Is it on topic? Look at the title of the thread. Now look at your post. Do they relate at all? If the answer is no, try again.
3.) Is it only directed towards one person? If you're wanting to talk to someone or ask a question that only applies to them, take it to PM's and VM's! It'll be easier for them to see, read, and respond to!
4.) Is it helpful? If someone is asking a question on a thread, such as,
"My computer is having issues, how can I fix it?" you shouldn't post in there just to say,
"I don't know!" That's annoying and pointless
5.) Is it good information? I know we all (for the most part) like to help others with their problems, but if you feel your advice could at all be misleading or a lie, maybe just itnore the thread.
6.) Is it original? Have you said this multtiple times? Does it need to be repeated?
7.) Is it readable? How is your grammar and spelling? Have you fixed mistakes in your post?
8.) Is it respectful? Whether it's a post on a thread, or a PM/VM, you need to be respectful of people. Not everyone wants to be spammed with PM's and VM's, especially if they've said something along the lines of 'leave me alone' or 'please stop'.
Now, in terms of making threads, here are some questions you can ask yourself before creating
1.) Will this spark good and meaningful conversation? Can a discussion come from this that won't just turn into one big fight?
2.) Will this help someone? Sometimes, as seen on the ACNL Discussion board, threads can be used to inform people of important things such as good tips, or even warnings against things. Even these boards can spark good conversation!
3.) Does is already exsist? There is no need to make duplicate threads. Really. No need! If a thread has died, bump it once. If a thread topic isn't catching on and has already died, why make a new one?
4.) What's the point of this thread? You don't need to make a thread just to share your favorite song. Threads like that already exsist! Really, we have 'general discussion' threads and things similar to that for a reason.
5.) Is it truthful? Making a thread called "Animal Crossing: Wii U!" could make a lot of people mad, especially if you try and act like it's really been announced.
6.) Does it make sense? Is it written in a way that makes sense and is readable?
7.) Can this be answered through a single post or a google search? Does this question or topic really need its own thread?
Hope this is helpful and keeps you from being hated!
