I would like a certain villager to move out as soon as possible. Does anyone have any tips for me to speed up this process? For example, does not talking to them work?

Also, please note I don't want to time travel! I know this works well to get villagers to move, but I don't want to risk losing my favourites.

Thank you for your help! :D

If you have 9 villagers in your town, your town will be in a "move out period."
If you have only 8 villagers, no one will move out and you will need to get that ninth villager to proc the move out period.
If you do have 9 villagers, I suggest you talk to the unwanted villager once, and go through with ignoring them.
You can also do the gossip method where you choose a villager or two and speak to them until they gossip if someone is thinking of moving. If that unwanted villager is thinking of moving, find them and hopefully they will ping you, they will not ping you if were not on speaking terms with them (which is why you should talk to them now and then ignore). Once you're back on speaking terms, wait for their ping or they will move out without telling you in a few days.

Awesome, thanks for your tips! I have 9 villagers at the moment, so I'm waiting for a certain villager to ask to move out. Has anyone else done anything to get a particular villager to move out?

If you don't want to time travel, it might take weeks and even months to get one specific villager out. But if you get lucky, you could possibly get them to scram in a week c:

It's pretty random unfortunately, the not talking to villagers has worked in my cycle town before but not in my main or second town so I think it's a bit hit and miss, it's also much harder to get the last villager who moved in to move out. I'd say try just talking everyday to one or two villagers as suggested above and see who's going to move, keep denying the request until the one you want to move pings. Although without TT it could take a very long time.

How the cycle works is that every 5 days, someone from your town will want to move. Regardless of whether or not you want them to move, someone else will want to move on the 6th day (unless you are down to 8 villagers). Just keep this cycle in mind and make sure you make the villagers you want stay and the villagers you want leave. Other than that, just talk to ALL your villagers, including the ones you want to get rid of, so that they will be able to ping you when they want to move away. Hitting them with a net/complaining to the town hall/making them fall in pitfalls doesn't help.

Reporting them to Isabelle, pushing them into pitfalls, turning down requests, hitting them with nets etc has no bearing on how fast they will leave the town, if at all (as mentioned above, there are other factors at play - move out periods and move in periods). I'm fairly confident in saying it's random, as ignoring villagers (whether completely, after speaking to them once or twice, or by doing that second-character-method that there's a youtube video about) has never worked to speed up the process for me.

ETA: LOL whoops this was already said, my bad
