How to get gold roses?

So I’ve been watering my black roses with my golden can for days but they haven’t turned gold yet. Is it random? Do I have to keep trying? Or am I doing something wrong?

I believe it's only a chance to spawn the gold rose buds, and I think you need to currently have 5 star rating for it to work.

I got gold roses from a rainshower, so the can doesn't matter, just the town rating.

because the flowers don't really wilt anymore i think it's by chance now, and grows like hybrids.
