What can I have to do in order to get a villager back that just left... I know silly me but really it was the auto save.. no really it was completely my fault.. I really feel some type of way when villagers leave but texs house was just amazing and I was avoiding him because he wasnt my dreamy but his house is one of my favorites!!! And i never got to change his outfit :/

I heard that they dont show up on mystery islands as much and dont come to the campsite anymore??

Just left as in they just moved out?

They'll still show up on Mystery Islands, you can adopt them from someone else, and you can use an Amiibo.

They functionally won't appear in the campsite as a random camper anymore because the campsite prioritizes villagers you haven't had/seen in the campsite before. You can technically see them again in the campsite, but it literally requires meeting all other villagers of that personality type (if you don't have a villager of that personality type already on your island), and after that, it's a pure RNG roll which villager you see and includes every single villager of that personality type, so you probably won't see that specific villager again without extreme amounts of TTing.

I'm glad someone replied to this because I was wondering myself. So mystery islands would be the best way to go is what I'm getting.

I heard we can also get them from someone else?? If they're moving I imagine but can we also get them from someone elses campsite i wonder??

You can’t adopt from other people’s campsites. It would require them to move the villager in to their town then move the villager out to yours

You can't get villagers from someone else's campsite unfortunately. If someone has a villager in boxes, as in they're going to be off the island the next day, then you can have them move to your island. But you need to have one plot of land free for that villager. If you already have 10 villagers living on your island, then you can't move the other one in.

I think if somebody with an open or visits you then they may get the same exact villager from your void. Then you could adopt them back.

Possibly! If you're willing to adopt, that might be the easier route. Depending on the villager you're going for, the Mystery Islands might be difficult given that the game rolls species first for those villagers.

But yeah, campsite is a definite no in this scenario. If you want to read more in detail, here's a doc on the mechanics of the campsite. Basically, the campsite prioritizes a) villagers that have a personality that your island lacks, and b) villagers you haven't had/seen in the campsite before. If you have a missing personality but have encountered all villagers of that personality, it's a pure RNG roll for which villager of that missing personality that you get. Meanwhile, if you don't have any missing personalities (or if you do have a missing personality, but the game "fails" the roll to spawn a villager with the missing personality), you have to literally encounter every villager in the game and then you'll get an incredibly small chance to see any specific villager, since every time, the game will now pick randomly from the entire villager pool.

Edit: I guess if the villager you're looking for has a personality type that doesn't have many villagers, the campsite might be feasible, but it's still a lot of TTing involved.

Thanks for the link. As for the campsite trying to give you specific personalities, I kind of figured this when I still didn't have a snooty. Each time a villager was at the campsite, it would give me a snooty every time. I eventually caved and just had Blanch the ostrich move in.

Don't give up hope, Lotusblossom. Literally yesterday I had to let Audie go because I had messed up her house and I found her on my 44th ticket on a mystery tour. Now, it could have been far, far worse. I bought 100 tickets with my TBTs and it is certainly possible I would have burned through those without finding her. But, the game doesn't make it harder to find the one you let go just because you just let them go. Months ago, I let Zucker go and he was literally the first or second villager I saw when I island hopped the day he went to a vacant plot.

Thanks for the info on villagers you've had and the campsite method, FraudulentDimetrodon. I was just going to ask that question. So, if I'm reading you right (it's late here), I would basically have to see all the peppies I haven't seen in the camp (I did the campsite method to get Audie to begin with) and then the peppies would start over and she could be peppy #1 or peppy #65?

Basically, yeah. Currently, I believe there's actually 49 Peppy villagers. So, in your example, every time the game specifically rolls to give you a missing personality, you'd always have a 1 in 49 chance to see Audie.

I'm not sure if, in your example, Peppy 65 was an arbitrary number or not, but just to clarify in case, the "no repeats" clause only works for the first cycle. So after encountering all Peppy villagers, you could get Audie as Peppy 1. It'd also possible that even after 100 Peppy villagers, you still won't have seen her again.

It's early here, so I might also be reading your question wrong. =P

So mystery islands would be the best way to go is what I'm getting.

My former villagers feel as if they're actively trying to return via mystery island. Often after letting them go I'll encounter them again quite quickly while island hopping - irritating when you're looking to find someone new!

Better to use mystery islands as there are fewer wolves than there are peppy villagers. The RNG is terrible though so be prepared to see the same faces multiple times. Not scientific but I also personally believe the Switch has a desire sensor to mess with you.

Audie won't remember you though. For that you'd have to find someone trustworthy with an empty spot in their island, visit them/have them visit you until she moved into their island, then wait for her to be in boxes there and then ask her to move back to yours. It's messy and takes time though.

Oh yeah I had that happen to me a lot when I wasn't as lucky with RNG before. Got Mira moving out at one point - bam! - she appeared almost instantly.

The easiest way is probably to buy/trade them from someone else (especially if they're an unpopular villager - can be pretty easy to get via an amiibo service or something)

Personally, I find a lot of my old villagers on mystery islands. The last time I went island hopping, I used 30 tickets and found 6 of my old villagers. Maybe that's just rotten luck on my part, but who knows.

Best of luck to you!

I literally found Celia the day after she left. It's all up to rng if you find them on an island or if they show up at your campsite

That sounds like good news for me, then. Thanks for sharing this information. :)

I got the 65 number from animalcrossing.fandom, but it probably includes non-returning peppies. I think when I was campsiting for Audie I was pleasantly surprised to find out there were fewer peppies than that but then forgot.

Here’s a barely helpful tip for island hopping. If you’re looking for a specific villager, scan in an amiibo of his species. Right now, I have Audie, Freya, Vivian and Skye. If I was looking for Chief, I’d have a 1-in-5 chance when the game rolled wolf. But, if I scanned in Dobie, it would improve to 1-in-4! Assuming I’m not forgetting some wolf. And I am. Kyle. Doh. So, from 1-in-6 to 1-in-5. Not great, but it does help. And it’s actually 1-in-7 to 1-in-6. My tip is getting worse all the time. 🙃

Ah, okay, yeah. I just wanted to make sure that it was clear that the "no repeats" clause isn't in effect after the first cycle. So in your scenario, you'd always have a 1 in 49 chance of getting Audie, and the odds will never improve unlike the first cycle. You could potentially never see Audie again in the campsite. But it's fortunate that you found her again without too much trouble on the Mystery Tours. :'D And yeah, having Amiibo can help with both the campsite and island hopping.
