How to get a tan?

I know you have to go to the island in the morning.Online says you have to stand there for like 2 hours.So you just stand o-o You can't run or anything.Also do you keep your DS like the screen open for these 2 to 3 hours or closed?

I had a tan forever. I played mostly in the morning, def on the island, and it seemed that as long as I was in the sun it didn't matter what I was doing. No umbrellas or hats.

You don't have to just stand there, you can do anything. The sun just has to be up and you can't wear anything that would put shade on your face!

A good idea is to just set the time to about 6 AM, go to the Island, and then go to bed at night.

When you wake up, you'll have a nice tan the next day.

And no, you cannot get a tan with a closed 3DS.

Oh wow I am totally sun fried right now, I just visited the island alot without wearing hat/shades, I did this mainly to catch bugs and fish to sell :u

Yes, I used to visit the island for an hour a day doing tours and I was tanned then.

Actually, this isn't true. It needs to be summer to get a tan in your town. Regardless of whether or not it's sunny, you can't get a tan in Spring, Winter, or Fall at your town- you then must go to the island.

Perhaps I shouldn't have assumed that the OP was already aware it had to be in summer, it has been the same in previous games also.
