Hi!

It's been a while since I've even touched my copy of ACNL (or been on these forums, I doubt anyone remembers me) and I only re-found it today when clearing out my bedroom.
I was thinking of participating in the 1/1 Challenge this year - I tried to last year and got bored within the first couple months.

Has anyone got any tips on how to become attached to the game again like I used to be? Plus any updates (i.e. the Amiibo update or whatever - I haven't got any idea what it's about) would be much appreciated!

P.S I'm sorry if this thread already exists. Please direct me to it if so!!

Like you I haven't touched the game in ages (like literally over a year lol). All the new items that were released inspired me to redo a lot of my rooms, and that lead to me wanting to redo my whole town haha

So if you like landscaping and stuff that might be fun for you!

With this new update, i also stopped playing for about a year but it got me back playing again! It fun trying to get the new villagers, furniture, and what's the 1/1 challenge?

The 1/1 Challenge is this thing where you reset on the first of January in the new year and play the game for a year. Last year (or should I say early this year) there was a great community of people all playing at the same time - no TTing allowed. It was fun to see people play at so many different paces and it was almost a challenge or game trying to keep up with them. I would love for there to be a community like that again in 2017. :)

like for Nammie my interest in the game restarted with the new update objects since I like decorating now I have more options for the environments I wanted to build ^^
so you can create different character and shape their house into different things (fake shop, fake school a teather...)

Right now I'm redoing a lot of my players houses. With the new items from the update the mayor now has a new kitchen in my main town. The guest town mayor bathroom got an update and she now has a craft room.

Waiting for the Saniro cards so I can update the College Dorm. Plan on changing all the beds using the Saniro items.
The 7-11 store in the College house got an update with Coffee items and an Ice Cream Case.

With the coupon thing that should keep you busy. Find that the coupon thing has helped players catch new items for their bug/fishing collection.

The update was literally the thing that got me re-obsessed :p I went off mine for a few months - simply because I was too busy to bother - and when the update came out I got straight back into it. There's so many new, cute items you can get - and it's fun to collect them!

Collecting the amiibo cards and figures is part of it too, so you can get the new items. If you're into Splatoon or Legend of Zelda, then it's really cool to have villagers/items related to your favourite games. Then the Sanrio stuff on top of that (the cards are only available in Japan and Europe, so a bit harder to obtain), which is super cute.

So the update is definitely worth investing in imo ~

I guess the other thing is finishing the bug/fish/deep sea diving collections, it's a good feeling when you finish them :p Or maybe even complete some of the furniture sets you currently have. Or trying to get some more badges from Phineas? There's so many things that can keep you busy :)

i find my biggest three inspirations are: landscaping (and interior decorating), looking at really cool dream towns, and trying to finally finish my encyclopedia

and, if none of that appeals to you, i would consider going into the game kind of like a little kid :^) catch everything for the fun of catching it, let whomever move in wherever, and put a bunch of random paths and flowers wherever you want. could be fun.

My catalogue and encyclopedia motivates me :)

Then, I would move on to making my dream home and town.

Thanks for all the replies so far! Will definitely be resetting on the first, if not before if I can't contain myself.

P.S If anyone else is interested in the 1/1 Challenge for 2017 the link is here .

Before the update I became detached to my game. I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of flowers in my town, (commons) didn't like how my characters houses were turning out and felt like it was almost to the end of playing. (Although I would pop in and talk to Maple just to keep her happy and in town)

After the update I honestly feel more attached to my town then before. Made me want to put more effort into my town and finish my encyclopedia and museum. Not finished yet... but someday!

I'm also starting to get into amiibos finally. So can't wait to see my collection grow! (My wallet can though...)

I also hadn't touched my game in ages until the new update came out in November. The update and all the cute items that came with it really made me wanna pick my game up again. I also find that looking at people's dream towns can be quite inspiring for both landscaping and interior designing. Maybe you should move in some new villagers too.

I actually remember you from this year's OYC thread! I'm still doing the challenge but the thread's become extremely quiet with only few people still writing there. As for your question, it depends on what aspects of the game you like. I'd say figure out what you're into the most and concentrate on doing what you like. I like the creative aspects of the game so what helps me is coming up with a theme/idea for a town and working towards completing said idea.

Goals often motivate people but if you want to set yourself a goal, make sure it's something you're interested in so that it's less likely to turn into just a boring chore. For example, I find that completing catalogs or encyclopedias doesn't motivate me at all to play. And don't become intimidated, don't take it too seriously. If you end up loosing interest whether it's in your goal or the whole game, it's ok. Just enjoy it while you're into it.
