How to back up my save?

Hi everyone!

I have my town that I love and I would be devastated if it got corrupted as I know it's happened to many others, so for that :/

I have two copies of the game, but my town is on the digital version *shudders*.

I was wondering what backing up the save file does/could do and if there is anyway to prevent my copy from corrupting (at least to the best of my ability).

I've heard of many ways your file can get corrupted and I will not be using those methods again, because I have done some of them and got away without corrupting my file.

Anyway, any insight would be great! Thanks

There's no way to back up a digital copy.

Oh I didn't know that! So there's no way to transfer the digital copy to the physical one? Dang :/ thanks for the info.

I remember that there once was a way to do it, you had to extract files with a certain number and copy it, but it's been a long time and I don't want to misadvise you. Long story short, it's most certainly possible, but backing it up can possibly just do the exact opposite; corrupt your game. Further, each time you save, a "Save ID' is assigned to that save and kept/memorized in the game. If you try to put in a different save with a different Save ID, the game instantly corrupts. So you're also going to have to backup your game basically everytime you play it. Really not worth it tbh.

Yeah, can't transfer over a digital copy to anything, it sucks. And, yes, I'm pretty sure the only way to back up a save file is with powersaves. Not sure how you'd go about it, don't have it myself, but if you're really worried about your town corrupting (especially if it's a cycle town or something), it might be worth considering.

but then everyone would suspect you of cheating and you'd never get another trade again

if you want to be safe, just find out how to transfer data between SD cards (its not hard and Nintendo has instructions on their site), and switch to a new card every 1-2 years

this won't function as a backup, but it will lessen the chances of corruption due to SD card age
