how popular is cataloging clothes?

I see. That's an interesting take. May I ask what is the massive headache that comes with catalog trades?
There's a couple things. I just finished my catalog today, so I guess I can talk a bit about the challenges that I encountered.

Whenever you're several hundred items away from finishing your catalog, you're probably going to have to make a bunch of large scale trades. These trades take tons of time, usually because you either have to shovel through your storage or time-travel several days over to get orders ready. (More generally, people massively underestimate the time it takes to complete catalog trades that are larger than 1-2 items, unless they've done it themselves.) There's a lot of smaller things that go into it (keeping an updated list, juggling multiple trades, not messing up color variations, etc.), but overall it's pretty exhausting. Even after going to five different cataloging services on this site, I was still missing more than a hundred items. Bulk cataloging services tend to have quite a bit of overlap in what they offer, which works against you.

As you start getting closer to completing your catalog, locating items becomes a lot harder. It's not difficult to find someone who has the surfboards, or the diner set in one color completely cataloged. If you're, say, looking for the throwback wall clock in purple, that's a completely different beast. You start having to make smaller trades, but you have to make more of them to make the same progress. I was lucky enough to find someone who was ~70 items from finishing their catalog, and letting them get most of the last 15 items that I needed.

<tl;dr> finishing your catalog is very painful and time-intensive

Dang that sounds pretty intense. Congratulations on getting your catalog complete!

I don't think I'll ever be that dedicated to get everything.. probably some items I like and call it a day. Actually kinds surprised I'm still playing this game since my usual game attention span is 60 hours ish... I am also really bad at keeping track of what I have because it is such a chore!!

Really impressed how you manage to get everything!! Maybe when I save up enough TBT I'll go to you for service =)

Ohhh my poor Kabuki (I mean he likes wearing it but still lol), I don't think the clothes will be removed in their inventory unless they gift it back to you, I got Lolly a gray academy uniform before, she wore it for weeks until she decided to gift it to my second account and now when I looked in her wardrobe, it's not there anymore, so let's just hope Kabuki will gift the light blue layered tank back to you someday lol

I personally buy every colour of a clothing item that I like if they are for sale in the shop, but I don't think I've asked to catalogue others' clothes before. I think it's probably because furniture is more likely to be used by all (due to the many locations you can place them in; e.g. floor lights), while people tend to stick to a few outfits that they like.

cataloguing clothes definitely isn't that popular, and you rarely ever see people in nook's cranny JUST selling clothes, as they are pretty easy to obtain in comparison to furniture and diys. i do wish i saw more clothing shops in nook's cranny since i've catalogued pretty much everything i need to and don't really have a need for furniture anymore unless it's unorderable. i've been looking everywhere for stuff like the bolero coat variations, as clothing is a pretty big part of the game for me! i love being able to wear cute clothes every day and change up my outfit. as for "rarer/more valuable" clothes, it would probably have to be event-exclusive stuff (ie the wedding stuff or the solstice sweaters i saw datamined) or the mom's items
