How Much Space Does a Villager House Require?

I heard that they take up three squares on the X axis, but I just needed to be sure.

the house itself takes up 3 x 3, with a one square edge all the way around that needs be clear (no rocks, edges, other houses, pwp, etc) so in total you need to have a space of 5 x 5
