So I'm thinking of buying a second copy for cycling. I only have one 2ds and I'm not planning of buying another. So I'll only use the second copy for selling villagers. My best friend has a 3ds but she lives an hour away and we only see each other one or twice a fortnight so I probably won't be able to transfer a villager to my main town unless I ask a member who has a cycling town to hold it until I have room on my main town. Which will take a while as I don't tt. So chances are I won't use the cycling town for myself, just selling.

Where did you buy your second copy if you have one yourself? I am really weird with money and I never spend a lot. The only reason I got acnl in the first place is because I got a cheap 2ds for my birthday and my best friend bought me the game for my birthday (as we normally get each other expensive gifts). I'm thinking of bidding one off eBay, for around ?8 or under. :P I know I'm weird. So then I'll have 2 physical copies. The one I'll get off eBay would probably not be a welcome amiibo version so would I easily be able to update it without messing up my first copy? A digital copy costs too much. So nothing between my two towns will go wrong right? I'm really stressy over things 'breaking' so I just need to make sure with you guys.

Would it be worth it buying two copies if I don't use it for my dreamies?
How much money did you buy your second/third/forth etc copy for?

It cost about 20 dollars (US) for me. It was a new copy instead of used - I looked for the used of course but there were none to be found and I really wanted a 2nd town so I went with it. It was worth every penny!

Thanks. ;)

Also I don't want to spam and post another thread so I'll ask on here. I'm pretty new to ACNL, I have had and loved all the previous games but I have not until recently got New Leaf as I didn't own a 3ds. So I was mostly playing City Folk for a long time until I decided to buy at 2ds. A villager was in boxes yesterday, would he be gone today or would still be in boxes? I'm going to plot reset so when should I do that tomorrow or today? Sorry I googled it but I'm wanting to confirm it with you guys.

If you've just adopted a villager, they won't have a plot in your town until tomorrow. You can just plot reset tomorrow (if the player time traveled already) or there's another way where you can set the time to 5:50 am and plot reset today but I never use that way lmao.

If you buy two physical copies you can play them on the same 3DS. I do myself.

I must mention, even though it is completely up to you, I personally wouldn't buy a copy to strictly cycle with. With the help of the amiibo cards, villager prices have went down a lot so I dont think it would be worth your time.

I'm from Canada so the lowest was $30. Our dollar is low right now.
I read some posters picked their copies up for $14.99 during a sale awhile ago in the US.

Technically, I got my second copy from the old AC Limited Ed. XL then another physical copy for $40 when the game's still new. I went on and made one of them a cycling town to get the villagers I wanted. That was during pre-amiibo days. Right now, I don't think it's worth especially if you can buy the cards and figures easily.

I paid full price for my 2nd copy as I bought it during launch week. $59.95AUD. That price hasn't changed since and is still the RRP price for the game in Australia. You can find it a bit cheaper, but you'd be very very lucky to find a proper sale, and luckier still for the store to have a copy..

I bought both my ACNL games (and the special ACNL 3DS) from a video game store a friend of mine owns. I'm not fussed about buying new or secondhand (half my ACWW cartridges were purchased secondhand), but these games are priced so highly that there's very little difference between them.

The Welcome Amiibo update is available for ALL (legal)copies of ACNL regardless of when or how the game was purchased. Essentially the special ACNL:WA edition just comes with the update already installed. There will be no issue with installing the update so long as you know that you'll need both copies to be the same (so 2 old games which will not updated, 2 old games which will both be updated, 2 new games that come updated, or 1 new game that comes updated + 1 old game that you update) - to my knowledge you cannot play different versions of ACNL on the one device. You also cannot interact (visit, including through dream town codes) with a town that is on a different version. I hope that makes sense?

I personally would not purchase a copy of the game solely to cycle, particularly if there's no easy way to access both my towns at once. I don't know much about how things are for villager trading - but I cannot imagine there's a lack of villagers for sale at the moment. With the update making villagers so much easier to get and send packing, I would think sell prices can only continue to fall from now on, at least until the next main AC game comes out.

I love having two towns and I'm going to buy a 3rd copy asap (I've been meaning to for ages already). But I have 3 devices so can access both my current towns at any time. I also enjoy playing in both towns and doing different things with them.

It's up to you, of course, but from the information in the OP I suggest you reconsider your priorities and go from there :)

When my fiance moved in, he brought his 3DS and ACNL with him. I guess lucky for me he's not too into ACNL and so I took over his game cartridge :)

But he bought his game for I think $30 a couple years ago.

pretty sure i got my second copy for about ?30? it's a welcome amiibo cartridge and it wasn't long after the update came out. i have no regrets

In the UK, I've never seen new copies under ?25 (about$30) and currently its at ?30 so $37. Never really comes down in price, and I think this is similar for other countries in Europe & Australia, as per amanda1983's post.

I always buy from a reputable dealer that does not open new games (to display the box!) so it tends to be an online retailer I know well/bought from before.

ds carts, including acww, did have some fake carts around, and for that reason I was wary of buying from 3rd party sellers or off ebay.
Not heard of fake carts for the 3ds, maybe its more difficult.

Never felt inclined to buy a used copy in case it contains hacked items (recent post where a player had something of this sort, maybe a post on gamefaqs), although if you restart the whole game you are presumably fine. Digital has never appealed and is always full price anyway.

Sometimes a game is part of a bundle, so if in market for a 3ds, might do better on price than this.

Price - well its a cheap form of entertainment if you compare it hour for hour against eating out, the cinema etc.

I want to say it was $20-30 but I didn't care cause I bought it due to me loosing my first copy, so when I found my OG copy I got to start a second town and now I have the two. My boyfriend has a copy he doesn't play that I have considered stealing but as soon as I would steal it he'd probably want to play out of nowhere. XD
