How many villagers do you have to cycle to get one back?

I figured I'd ask and get a general consensus...I lost a dreamy a while ago (Muffy :'c ) and a friend told me I had to cycle 10 villagers before I could get her back. I'm on villager number 8 of my cycle and was excited to almost be done, so I began looking up stuff on cycling just to be sure I was doing everything right! Then I saw a bunch of people saying you need to cycle......16 villagers to get a lost one back.....???????? Ngl I'm really hoping it's just 10!!

Yeah it?s 16 I lost Kiki because I wasn?t paying attention, and now I?m having to go through that dreadful cycle. Good luck though - it taught me to keep good track of the dreamies I want to keep!
There?s a few villager cyclers on the villager trading thread that make it pretty easy to cycle through villagers, if you need the help
