How many blocks in length x width are the "essential" buildings?

Measured with Nooks Cranny.

The building length is 9. (Actually it's 7, but I believe the game requires 1 space per side)
The actual width is 4, but we'll say 5 since there needs to be 1 space in the front.

So 9x5

Just a suggestion, but you can dig holes beside the building to find depth, and in front of to find width. X number of holes would equate to the size of whichever building.
