I mean even the GC one constantly has posts about it on tumblr... but then again that's thanks to emulators "bringing it back."

AC:NL has already lasted nearly a year.
Even if there's a new AC for console, a lot of people (like me) will just stick to the handheld version until a new handheld version is released.

Yeah it works really well as a handheld. Not only that, but the Wii U is just not a particularly popular console.

this is my first Animal Crossing. Part of the reason I like it so much is it's a hand-held game.

It's already (nearly) been a year since it's release, right? I don't see it's popularity fading until the next instalment comes out. I for one, will definitely keep playing for the forseeable future.

I played AC on the GC for nearly 2 years after it's release. I think 2 years is a good medium for which it'll remain popular, but it can go much longer than that.

While I agree about liking newer versions, the WiiU can literally just go spontaneously combust, to put it nicely. If they honestly put one out for the WiiU my spite and rage levels will be waaaaaaaay off the charts.
