How long are you meant to stay during villager visits?

I no longer even buy ugly stuff if I'm trying to get their houses to original. It's better for me if I wait until they ask me to give them something to replace that thing so I know for sure the original thing goes back to its original spot.

I usually talk to them once and leave. If there's an atrocity in their house or something rare, I try to buy it. I got Iggly's sloppy stereo this way, lol.
