is there such thing as a perfect map? how important is a "good" map in new leaf? getting so stressed about resetting for my map, im going insane.

well, i think maps matter a lot.. like, I'm actually considering resetting my town just because my town map sucks so much -__- because how you layout and landscape your town all depends on the space and design of your map...

personally, i think the perfect map has the town plaza at the center, vertical waterfall, the river divides the town in a nice and equal way, and maybe a ~secret beach~ area hahah

btw goodluck on resetting for a good map! :D

I was resetting for 9 days to get one I was happy with i found perfect maps for my taste but I really wanted apples (because sparkly) i think alot of people have been there I'm really happy with the one I have right now. what are you looking for exactly some times its good to tell someone exactly what you are looking for in a map so that you have a goal map otherwise there is always a reason to reset.

I'm not sure about a perfect map but there is such thing as an ideal map. I find an ideal map important to some extent, but if you're content with just about anything it's probably not as important since it's just "ideal."

If you're getting stressed about map-resetting why don't you just take a 5-minute break? Or a 10 or 15 minute break? Heck, take a longer one if you have to! I think we can all agree that Rover's smile is pretty annoying to see after you've been resetting for hours and hours, so maybe just turn off ACNL for a little while (maybe even anything ACNL-related) and have a food break or take a walk (or a nap X'3).

Th-that's just my thoughts, though >u>; It was really unhealthy of me to town-reset for hours and hours straight back in January. Wish I had taken a breather back then.

this one any good?

I like the river on that one!

Honestly, I was able to look past what I didn't like about my town because Merengue was a starting villager. And I honestly have very few complaints about my town now. In fact, my only complaint was my own doing: my house placement.

i think part of the problem is that i am so conflicted about what a "good" map is, everyone has a different idea. i think i might keep this map.. its confusing bc some people will say a map is "perfect" (i saw a few people discussing this exact map but opposite and calling it perfect) then people will say its not ideal. so i dont know :P

For most people, it's different qualities that make a map their ideal. The only things I would worry about if you're unsure are: if you can design something with all of the available land (the small strips of land that are created by extremely diagonal rivers are hard to put PWP's or other stuff in) and can pinpoint good locations for your house and other major PWP's. I've seen quite a few people regret choosing maps because of that. Location of lakes and boulders are a thing to consider to (I prefer fewer lakes)

Less major things: native fruit, which way a waterfall faces, private beach, etc. etc.

All in all, pick a map that will spark your creativity. Don't go for the "most popular" choice or anything if that's not your taste <: If you like ponds and wonky rivers, heck yeah, go for it 8D

ohhh hahah well dont worry an 'ideal' map is just based on personal opinions anyway so dont let others' opinions of a 'good' map force you to choose one that you dont really want :D

Everyone has their own opinion on what a perfect map is. You ideally want to get the best map for you. This is nearly impossible to achieve though due to the number of random variables to go into a map; you'll never get exactly the map you want. Determine what the most important features of a good map are for you and prioritize those. Ask yourself if it is really worth getting hung up over grass shape or the color of the train station roof if you have a map that is otherwise very good for you.

If you are planning on putting a lot of effort in your new town, you don't want to ruin your efforts by picking a bad map to start with. There are some flaws that you can work around, but there are some you might regret every time you landscape, so think carefully about that before you pick a map. Also, don't undermine the importance of having a practical town. The map might look very pretty, but if the river is very windy and Re-Tail is in the corner somewhere, you may be spending a lot of extra time going back and forth in your town.

I'd keep resetting. There is nothing really bad looking about that map, but there is nothing really special about it either in my opinion. It has an average sized river which doesn't take up too much space, but the river leaves a thin strip of land which is hard to work with. It also has an extra pond which isn't terrible, but I feel like you don't need an extra pond for aesthetic purposes and you certainly don't need it for fishing. The large pond being in the middle is annoying to me since you have to build a bridge on one side or the other which is kind of an eyesore. The pond by Re-Tail is also right in the middle between the plaza and Re-tail which makes it difficult to run a path through there.

I'm not trying to sound rude, so sorry if it comes off that way. From what I've seen, you are relying too much on the opinions of others. Everyone has their own opinions on what maps are good and bad. You need to try some out on your own or visit dream towns to see what you like in a town.

As someone who has been in your shoes, don't pay too much attention to others. It only leads to misery. I just picked a map about a month ago after resetting for seven months. Go with your heart, not others opinions. You will get there one day! :)

Your right! this game is making me crazy.. This actually helps :) thanks

Pick a map that you think is "okay" and that has your ideal perfect fruit. It'll be a lot easier to work with - trust me.

I reset at least 10 times trying to find the "perfect" map for me. I didn't really know what I was going to be doing with my town to be honest. I was trying to invision what I wanted where, but in the end, I just completely forgot what my intentions were with my map and just made it my own by placing paths/buildings/PWPs where I felt they belonged. Like another user mentioned - a fantastic town can be created from pretty much any map. Like 95% of your town's charm comes from how you make it unique and fun. When I look back at my town map - I think I chose one of the ugliest maps. I wish I had a vertical waterfall... I wish I had my plaza in the center of my town, and I wish the river was symmetric. That said, I would never restart my town because I made what I had work into something I adore now xD.

Anyways, try not to stress out about the map too much. Like I said - as long as you pick a map that you don't absolutely hate and as long as you have the fruit of your choice (I would suggest picking the town fruit whose perfect fruit you want most so that their perfect fruit trees will grow) then you'll be fine. You'll probably feel your town is "meh" for a long time, but that's the fun in making your town awesome! Good luck :)!

Thank you! that is really helpful :) im not going to worry anymore about maps, its making me so stressed and crazy trying to get it perfect. (i do have ocd and acnl unfortunately flares it up) but your right, some of the best towns have a huge variety of attributes to it that make it nice, and most of them i like dont have maps most people would pick over others.

I don't care as long as I have the retail by the station and the plaza is away from the middle of the map.

…'Perfect'? …No!

I don't think there is such a thing as "perfect."

One can come across a map that works out so well that it ends up feeling perfect.

That worked for me with ACNLpics.

The map worked for me for what I wanted to present with this villager pictures-themed town. And it took me some time to come across it. I wanted cherries for my Perfect Fruit. I wanted a map where I could have four human houses immediately neighbor each other. And I wanted the town to be path-friendly in which, for example, I wouldn't have a rock disrupting the flow. For what I wanted to accomplish, I ended up with a successful map.

I think it is somewhat important. When I started I only thought about my house placement on the map. My map is somewhat okay but I'm not going to reset because I've worked hard on my badges and have all my dreamies. Now I just need to landscape it right.

I don't believe that a "perfect" map exists. Even if you manage to get a good one, there's always a flaw that you come across sooner or later. A good town map matters to me, but the best thing to do is to pick one with an ideal layout for what you want to do with it and then work around any flaws you might find later. :)

It's all personal preference really. I've seen a lot of people recently reset for the same type of map, which I think is horrible in my opinion. At the same time, someone may think my map is horrible and impossible to work with. Everyone will have different themes, or want different pwp. You just have to have a look and decide what you want, and then think which map would be good to lay those things out in ^-^
