How far are your fossil collections? Would/do you buy off the forums?

Hi all,

Since I am nearing my museum's fossil completion (I only need apato tail and styraco tail, nudge nudge), I have been toying with the idea of hoarding my extras and possibly selling them on the forum. But I am wondering if most of you don't also have a complete museum. I have not noticed many fossils being sold in shops over the forums.

So would it be worth it to have a shop or no? What are your thoughts and collections like?

(Also, apologies if this isn't in the right section.)

I just finished the fossil collection 2 months ago, it was really REALLY annoying to get all of the fossils (Hell, I've collected 98% of the fossils LAST YEAR) and it would be perfect to have a shop to get remaining fossils and stuff.

Paintings too, since those are annoying to get.

That's what I was thinking, people being annoyed that it takes forever once you only have a few to go, that they would buy stuff. Dunno about paintings since I only have like...5.

Agreed. It took me forever to get my final fossil. But it took MUCH longer to find all the paintings lol

I've actually almost completed two sets of the mini fossils and in a weird way it seems like building that collection hasn't really taken that long.

I'll keep a look out for an apato tail and a styraco tail for you

I've never even tried to make the mini sets but they do look cool in some houses. I assume that's done with Cyrus.

I actually finished my fossil collection very quickly and I've never had any help from somebody else. I did a lot of time traveling so I guess that may have been a factor. Some people consider time traveling "cheating" but I was cycling for a while so there was lots of buildup of fossils and gyroids.

I finished my entire museum ages ago+got spare fossils, models, and art (including fake art) of everything

pretty sure I did the majority of it for the museum on my own, but I def bought a lot for the stuff to just have


and actually whenever I'm not being lazy, fossils and art are 2 things I generally try to always keep in my shop. I'd say they do decently well enough. but don't expect big money on fossils, unless someone just buys like 20+ at once off you or something

I've completed the fossil collection a while ago by myself. I'm not sure if a fossil collection would be ideal considering I don't really see that many people in retail asking for them, but it never hurts to try.

No problem! I heard from another user that they can go for a lot on here. That's not the reason I started to make them though, I was just bored. lol

Yea you have to take all the pieces to Cyrus and it can be a hassle to keep track of what fossils you have and what you still have left to get.

Yeah, I mostly meant for the non-TTing crowd but I don't consider it cheating, just not something I will do on this version of AC. Also nice avatar.

I just finished the fossil collection few days ago! Blathers told me & I got the dig site wall the next day in museum shop..
It did take forever to get that two or three last pieces I was missing.. Maybe I could have looked for them in Retails board & bought them from other players, but I was just too lazy to look at each names (long spellings) and track them xD and I usually sell extra ones to the Retails so I thought most players do that too instead of storing bunch of extras in the closet.

Same thing with the art/painting exhibition. I know it's not completed but I don't wanna check on each one of them, make a long list and stuff xD

Since I got my game on the release date, I finished my fossil collection a long time ago. From what I remember collecting them went quite smoothly for me; I didn't get that many doubles and found them all in a reltively short time. But I know a lot of people have trouble finding those last few fossils!

At this point, I think fossil buyers would mostly be new players, which I don't think there are too many of. People who've had the game for a long time will probably either have finished their collection by now, or not really care about finishing the museum. Oh, people who reset their town might be interested, too.

I'd give it a shot if I were you, and if people don't bite, they'll give you a tasty profit by just selling them to Re-Tail nonetheless.

I completed my fossil collection a few months back, but it took ages getting the last one(Ptera skull). I did consider buying it off someone on here, but when I looked no one was selling them so I just continued to search each day for them.

I tried selling fossils for quite a while myself. I had very few people interested in them though, in the end I ended up giving them away to people who were looking for them on here and a couple of friends I met in-game, and whatever people didn't want I just sold in Re-tail because I was tired of the space they were taking up.

Hey thanks for the advice everyone. I think maybe I won't do it then, or at least either wait until I have more than one side character (for more storage) or just sell models. My partner just started the game last month so perhaps I will shower him with fossils lol. I started playing in June or July of 2014 but quit in August when school started and only came back to it a month ago so I only really have like ~3 months of playtime put into it, hence the incomplete collection.

I haven't completed mine yet since I reset my town recently. I think I'll find as many as I can, and then I'll buy off the forums once I get sick of looking.

I haven't finished my fossil collection yet because I keep forgetting to dig them up and take them to the museum.

I probably wouldn't buy them from a shop, though. I like the challenge of completing it for myself, and if I ever run out of things to do I'll have something to keep me entertained for a while. A shop could be a really good idea since some people might want to collect them all quickly or get the parts to take to Cyrus for the miniature models.
