How does the void work?

I've read that characters that don't get asked to move to another player's town end up in the void. Is this true?

How does one get a villager to move out of the void? And is it true that if you visit a town with ten villagers, it clears your void?

I'm still in need of someone to take Naomi for a little while until she's ready to move again (so I can get her back).

Well, it looks like she's gone. I didn't realize that Streetpass also moved characters out of the void, and I got a voided villager today. So bummed.

Yes, characters who don't get moved to another town end up in your void. The only sure way to move a villager out of the void is to visit or SP someone with a free spot in their town a lot until the villager moves there. People usually visit a full town to try to clear their void, but people have said before on here that this doesn't guarantee that the villager will be gone from your void. It's worth trying just to be on the safe side, though. If you really don't want a villager to end up in your void, have someone visit you while the villager is in boxes and invite that villager to their own town.

Getting someone's voided villager doesn't mean one of your villagers is no longer in your town's void.

So it's not like a trade or anything? So much information I still don't know about... Thank you for your answer. <3 I'm feeling discouraged is all, I just need someone to hold Naomi for a while, and crossing my fingers she'll stay put until I get other villagers out.

When a villager that moved out moves back into your town, do they move back into the same location they were in before or do they move to a different spot? I've always been curious about that.
