How does the void work in ACNL?

I recently lost one of my favorite villagers (Beau) and is now in the void because I somehow missed him (going into boxes, being pinged that he was moving, etc.). Since he's in the void, does this mean that the next person I Wi-Fi with gets Beau if they have an open spot? If this is the case, would it be possible to sell him here on TBT?

I have never lost a villager before even though I have had the game for like 2 years so I'm really new to all of this. :/

It's not for sure, but if you do vist someone and the have a empty space. It's possible. But I wouldn't sell him voided because your not sure if he will show up. It's better to sell him if he is in boxes.

Thanks! I will see what others have to say before I decide to sell/giveaway Beau. I hate losing one of my favorite villagers, but it would be cool if I could give or sell him to someone who will actually enjoy him.
