I reset my town around Christmas a few months ago because I was just so bored of it. I can normally keep a town for a long time but lately I've just been so bored of the game. I haven't played my new town very much, maybe three week's worth of days that I've played since I started my town on Christmas Eve (so going on 5 months). I don't know how to get myself interested again and I've even been playing City Folk instead, which I'm having way more fun with compared to New Leaf. I really love NL but I just can't get back into it. I know some of you have your original towns and still play every day. So does anybody have any tips on how I can get back into the game?

I also restarted my town, but around Summertime. The reason I got bored of it was because of the constant time travelling and rush to perfect my town (and collect all my dreamies). It became more of a chore than anything to be honest.

This time though, I've committed myself to letting things happen at the flow of the game. The anticipation to see who might move in next without the burden of plot-resetting or trading has made it more exciting to play. I've also set certain goals, such as earning badges, completing my museum, and improving my friendship with everyone. Most importantly, I've grown to accept and love my town's quirks and imperfections, instead of sulking over it, which has actually helped a lot.

I also found inspiration from other people and their experiences on Tumblr, and have even starting a blog to help motivate myself with new ideas and to interact with others.

I spend quite a lot of time visiting towns via the Dream Suite. It adds a lot of replay value for me.

I've managed to keep my town alive and bustling for 2 and a half years. No thoughts on resetting because I am happy with my town. I've been playing all the time and racked up 300+ hours into the game. My trick to staying interested is to try to relate and think of your villagers as your real friends. Talk and play with them all the time, as they always have the time for you, and also want you to stay. Not playing the game for a while means leaving them behind. I mean, it can be pretty sad if a friend left you behind right? That's how I kept playing it after all these years because I am usually alone. It might also work for you.

Have dreamys and have a good map that is the only reason I'm playing the game and it is hard to reset. Because I love my villagers.

I actually just reset my town because I was soooooo bored of my 'perfect' map. I picked a map I never would have picked before and so far I'm LOVING it! Before I used to worry about where to place everything so it's in the perfect spot and where to plot the perfect villagers but this new town I'm just kind of going with the flow which is much more relaxing.

I've been playing since the release and still have the same town.
I do have other towns that keep me busy. In my main town I removed all the fairytale and made it a Zen town.
Visiting the dream suit I saw the white wooden bench and had to add it to my town. Once the mayor was close to completing her badges I started letting the side players out. It's more fun playing as side player. No mayor stress. The side players can go to the island or play with the villagers. Along the way the side players have collected a lot of badges.

The conversations and the invited from the villagers are why I come back each day.

New Leaf was the first Animal Crossing game I ever played and my main town, Glendale, is the first town I ever made :3 I still play regularly and keep myself interested by working towards getting my ideal 10 villagers, decorating all four of my characters' houses, having four different characters to play on, writing silly letters I know I'll get a good laugh out of when a villager finally shows it to me again, earning badges, and saving tons of bells. I also really like to make custom designs, so that keeps me interested too :3

I have two towns that I never reset. Started my first town 2 years ago and got very attached to it. Can't imagine letting go of any of the villagers but I go without touching it for months at a time.
I play more in my second town these days. I'm not as attached to the villagers there so I'm trying to cycle through some of them to keep things more interesting and just playing with some of the landscaping/having a different theme is keeping things more entertaining so far.

I literally tell myself "This game is great and fun. Don't think anything else."
It's hard for me to stay interested in something for more than a few weeks or a month. It's been that way for a several years. But with Animal Crossing, I'm trying to keep myself interested by taking it one day at a time and being involved in the community :)

I give myself goals. For instance, collecting all my badges, completing my museum, collecting all the bugs/fish. Then there's decorating my characters homes, I'm not done with it yet. Plus, I take everything a day at a time now. Now that I'm actually done with my town and all.

I like to buy villagers, check in everyday to see if my dreamies are moving or not, I still need to reach 100% perfect catelogue, And just to talk with the villagers, also like organizing their home. Mmm yeah I like to collect igbs in the game too so lots of island farming and trades :3 and probably more, dream addresses and small changes in the landscape, I never really get bored of the game xD

These are all great responses, though sadly I've tried most of them. I think I'm going to try to get back into the game but instead of planning everything and getting dreamies I think I'll just let everything happen as it does and place PWPs and everything as I feel like it. I think what was making the game not fun for me has been trying to plan everything out. I'll be looking forward to more responses so that I can get more ideas on how to stay involved in the game.

I mean didn't it come out like 4 years ago?

It's astonishing to me that there's still such an active community of people playing the game. I remember BTF/TBT died a few years after City Folk's release

Just stay as busy as possible. I normally start out trying to get money and collecting fossils than move on to my next task. If I ever get to a point where I've done everything and feel bored of my town I restart my town and start a new leaf (No pun intended).

or if you do not mind time traveling, then just write down the last time you logged on, put it aside for a couple of weeks, and then start back up on that day.

This way, you lose nothing, you can TT slowly to get back to current time, and you may find something to bring joy in playing again.

Or buy a second copy of the game (like I did) and go from there :)

Personally I feel Time Traveling keeps the game from becoming slow and boring

I just arrived in my new town 2 days ago, and I'm loving it so far! I had reset my old towns because they were hacked a lot. This town, I will limit the amount of time travelling I do and I won't hack it

Please don't tell me seeding still exists... >_>

Two words: Fine tuning.

Changing stuff inside and outside the house. Set goals for yourself that will take a long time to do, work a little at it every day. Design clothing for friends and villagers to wear. Things like that. :)
