I have heard a few people on tumblr saying that you tried it and it works if you do it a special way, (turning off the device i think?) but i have heard mixed things. Anyone know the details?
I have plot resetted the normal way using amiibo cards a few times already & so have a few of my friends.
I just scanned them
skipped to the next day at 5:58am - saved
started a new file once it has turned 6am & then redo the process until the plot is in a nice location.
Didn't turn off my device once.
I really don't know where the rumors about the plot resetting came from tbh. I think people might be doing it wrong & instantly went online to go say it was different, then the rumor spread? Not too sure. Maybe certain people are just having glitches.

I wish I had have known this, ugh. Luckily Inkwell didn't set up in too terrible of a location, but if I hadn't have heard the rumors I would have just plot reset him into the location my old villager was in...
Thanks for sharing and dispelling the rumors, this'll make it a lot easier in the future.

Of course! I don't know from experience about villagers invited from the campsite, as I haven't personally done that yet, But I'm sure it's most likely the same thing.
I haven't gotten around to downloading the update yet, but I imagine plot resetting being the same for adopted and campsite villagers because the only way that would change is if the update fundamentally changes the way the game loads when you start a new character. The reason why plot resetting works is because the game doesn't load/save when you make a new character which means the game randomly generates stuff for the day each time you create a new character. The only way that changes is if the update makes the game load before you create a new character or before you can explore the town with that new character. I bet Nintendo didn't want to mess with that because they don't want people's games getting corrupted over a new loading code. Amiibo villagers are probably different as they force you to load/save upon importing them into your game.
OKAY GUYS, I have figured out what the confusion was about.
If you invite an amiibo villager via amiibo card with 9 or less villagers, you CAN indeed plot reset the totally normal way.
BUT if you invite an amiibo villager in & kick someone out in the process, that new vilalger WILL take the place of the villager kicked out regardless! So I suggest trying to get that 10th villager out before you scan amiibo cards! With the Amiibo figures in the campgrounds, I am sure it works the same way! Prolly gonna make this a post of its own.
-edit-
I am wrong again.
I tried plot resetting about 3 times & on the 3rd time it moved. So nevermind! Plot resetting is free game!
