How do you move a villager into boxes (without amiibo)?

I'd like to get a villager into boxes through time traveling or other means but am not entire sure how to do so. How do you? Thank you!

It is all a matter of time and luck. When it is time, Villagers will mention that X is thinking of moving, and that villager will be wandering around with thought bubbles.

This guide is a pretty comprehensive overview of how to move someone into boxes through TT. I never personally used this method but friends of mine have and they said it's a pretty good start/has helped them alot.
