so i have to remember twelve definitions for biology in about 12 hours and i've never been a good studier or rememberer so memorizing all of this in a few hours is a bit tough for me (yes i waited till now to start memorizing)
what do you guys do to remember stuff for school? like do you write them over and over? say it over and over again? im trying that and it's eh
pls send help

Well it is generally an individual thing isn't it?

As for me...I admit I never really studied properly at all. But I still had B-A grades in high school so I never felt the need to except for some science tests. In this case I just read over the textbook before I took it.

I just read it over and over again and look for key words. Twelve vocabulary words aren't that hard. It should only take about ten minutes to get yourself familiar with them if you try.

for sciences i rmbr me and my friends made up a bunch of silly acronyms or sayings to help rmbr orderings and stuff
I still remember someone had pencilled in a saying for the kingdom phylum etc order in my IB bio study guide, and it was:
king philip comes over for good sex.... lol its dirty?? I guess but memorable

and for physics for the wavelengths from longest to shortest, the one I rmbred was
red martians invade venus using xray guns

definitions though... honestly I think I just looked at it over and over and tried to associate key words with each lol

thank you guys :u its just that our teacher is gonna be asking all like 30 of us like personally what they mean and she intimidates me so i wanna try to get most of it right x.x i'm not that great at remembering stuff at all and i never ever study but i do manage to hold a-'s in most classes except for this so i don't want the grade to get any lower n.n thank you!!!

i usually write the word and definition 5 times and say it out loud while writing each word. then i try to repeat it five times in my head / out loud without looking at the paper.

repeat the process however many times it takes before you know it.

I would write them all down on a piece of paper, try to memorize them, and then either try to recall them or even better get someone else to test you using it. Try to keep what you've written on the paper as simple as possible, as (if you're like me) if you can recall a small bit of information on the topic, it should cause a chain reaction where you can remember the rest. You can also bring the piece of paper on the bus/etc to school so you can stare at it till you learn it :P

I didn't. That's how I got that C in chemistry...

No, but really though, for definitions, start with two or three, say them (out loud is best) until you can recite them by memory, and then add on more and more until you have them all. I memorized 20 definitions in a school day for English like this a few times (We had to write the definitions exactly as they were. It was a terrible time)

I would read the word and then the definition out loud. Then take the word and try to find something to remind you of what it means. Honestly, reading the word and then the definition and then thinking about it and talking out loud to yourself about the word and its meaning is the easiest thing for me.

That's how I've learned some Japanese words. Hearing them in anime over and over.

It's tedious stuff but isn't that what studying is? Tedious? xD

Good luck and I hope I helped. It's the number one trick that helps me. :)

repetition or associating the words with something
i'm mostly a visual learner so i just stare at it for a few minutes

Flash cards. Flash cards. Flash cards. Maybe make up little poems or songs to remember stuff? That's what I did when I took anatomy. Which I got a D in by the way, so I might not be the best person to give advice. LOL

This is why I sucked at school. I don't have brain capabilities for retaining information for longer then 5 seconds.

omg it's working

yes i did that too lmao

I put them on index cards and repeat them until I can finally say it without reading it.

I would write stuff down. Your hand movements help you remember what your trying to remember, in this case, something you're writing for the future to come.

Write it on the inside of your eyelids. The teachers can't penalize you for blinking. ;)
I usually have to make up littel stories to along with memory things, but for other problems I have to do a procedure for it.

Takes notes, not only the stuff in Powerpoints but what comes up in discussions as well. It can be useful!
