Now that I?ve got two towns with fairly defined themes, I?m finding it a whole task unto itself to keep track of the plans xD so I thought it?d be a fun discussion to hear how others keep track of plans, whether it?s just house decoration or in depth plotting of every last flower and tree xD

I?m relegated to longhand & notebooks myself actually, I don?t have much computer access until late evening and most mobile formats don?t fit what I need; the best I have online is MoriDB and even that?s a bit overwhelming to navigate |D I?m trying to break down the tasks and figure out specific item sets I need & what quantities most of all, landscaping may just be a wing it situation since it?s hard to build a good map in a standard notebook.

I use MoriDB for item lists, tiles for landscaping, and notepad for any seasonal decoration changes.

The most important things I need to remember I put in one big note on my phone (because I have that with me at all times lol), it's an absolute mess but it keeps the planning from feeling like a chore :)
I have lists of PWPs I think would look good together, which villagers I'd want in my town, and which kinds of bushes I've planted where (I keep losing track of them rip). With furniture and stuff if I come across something I'd want I make sure I'm logged in on moridb and add it to a wishlist.
I'm not too pressed about everything looking perfect, so I find that this method works for me. I too am curious to see how everybody handles this!

Items-MoriDB
Villagers-Ingame Bulletin Board
Room Designing-Camera Roll/HappyHomeDesigner (I plan my houses on HHD, then try to recreate them in my town)
Town Designing-Ingame Paths (I.e, Pattern with “Sakura” written on it means regular tree)
Badges/General Goals-Notes on Ipad

Wow this thread has really inspired me to actually keep track of things, for some reason I never really thought to write things down? So many great ideas in here!

For my first town I didn't really have a theme in mind so I didn't keep notes or anything. For my second town I have a definite plan I'm working on. I have arthritis in both hands so hand writing everything was not an option. Even too much typing can be a problem. For clothes & specific furniture in the 2 houses I used MoriDB to make the lists. For everything else I created a master list of what villagers (personalities to get PWPs), PWPs, Nook's Homes pieces, etc. on my laptop. (It took me two days because of the arthritis but it's a big help to have all of my ideas in one place.) Since I can't always have my laptop out or with me, I keep a small notebook that I write down what I got through out the day. At night before I go to bed I bring up my master list & use my handwritten notes to mark off what I did on the master list. It cuts down on the handwriting I need to do and on the typing. As far as landscaping I'm not going to really start on that until I've gotten more PWPs built.

Bought a hard journal to keep track of my towns.
All coffee orders, Gracie fashion check list for each theme and a section for each town. Each town has a check list for museum, tools, perfect town and shops unlocked. I have a to do list for each town. Keep a list of how many more villagers need to move in and time last played.

I used moridb and made separate catalogue for each type of items. For each type I just put the ones that I was missing and removed them when bought. I don't have a phone and logged on each night to remove the items.

Most of my mayors have the same birthday so I use to keep track of the lucky item of the day for the town that was ahead of time. It came in handy for mayors behind and could order the clothing the day before. The item was the same as town ahead. I also use to write down good tour days for high medals. I stopped doing that once most of my players had their gold badges.

I keep alot of guides as pics in my phone. I have a whole album for it with atleast 100+ pictures in it. I also have 2 separate albums for QRs, combine them both QR albums and that's over 500 pictures.

I bought a notebook specifically to keep a master list of every single QR I have ever made, and that's only for my XL system. I haven't even gone throu my 3DS system yet, but I don't really plan to. All my better QRs are on the XL system. I list the title of the design, the date in my camera roll where I can find it, for easy access, and who made it, incase I need to go back and tweak some details.
I also used to have a notebook that had every DLC/regional exclusive/Leif item/out of my region holiday item/accessories that Labelle didn't sell/ect... item that I didn't have yet. I would cross stuff off once I got it. This is kinda like my moriDB.
In the memo section of my phone, I keep weather diaries for all 3 towns, dreamies I need, weather or not I have their card, their personalities, among other stuff. I use to also write down the color scheme for my town, what flowers to use, the pattern to plant them and what season I wanted the towns in.

I highly recommend the "Guide for Animal Crossing New Leaf" app by Jake Ruston – it made getting my catalogue medals a thousand times easier, not to mention encyclopedia, buying Redd's art, keeping track of which villager likes what coffee, etc. without having to drag out my laptop or Googling.

Other than that, I typically make a rough sketch drawing of my town in a notebook and pencil in where I think I might want certain PWPs, flowers, fruits, and bushes. And then end up changing it a thousand times when my mood changes, hahaha.

Oh and I plan rooms via HHD!

I don't really like to meticulously plan my town. Of course I want it to look good, but I find it more interesting when towns develop without any central planning. I do like to keep records of things like PWPs (I like to write stories behind different landmarks in my town) in a thread here, which I should probably get to updating one of these days.

I do alot of to do lists and write it down in paper and sticky notes.
I have a set theme too going on and I like to be very precise. For the first list I created a whole list of what exactly was going to be each room in all four houses. So basically I did a write down of 24 rooms. I also make tiny lists of things I need to do in some rooms ( like catch a centipede with one character to display, or find a dandelion to display, etc).
I also kind of make a list of the Pwp im missing or villagers I want, et. I make paper lists of everything. Then on moridb I make wishlist of items I need to trade for.

I never actually kept track of how I wanted my first town (Canaan) to look. I just went with whatever I felt looked good. Landscaping was fairly simple anyway, since my town is absolutely covered in paths. I do have some spaces where flowers and PWPs are, but in general I have paths for rivers, grass, and a brick path as well as flower boxes to go in front of buildings and villager houses. The only thing I ever thought to write down was the coffee orders of my villagers and the NPCs. That I kept track of in a notebook which I actually still have. I mostly created Diamond to hold villagers that wouldn't fit in Canaan, so I've done next to nothing with it. It's sad really, but at least I'm able to use it as a cycling town when I need to. I'm kind of ashamed of how messy Diamond is, but at this point I'm in college 5 days a week and don't have time to landscape anyway.

I use OneNote for list of villagers and town maps, what furniture they have, future plans. Pretty much anything that relates to ACNL goes in OneNote.

I have two towns but I only play one at a time. I keep note of the date I stopped playing one then I work on the other.
Planning towns have become a lot easier after the update. I always use patterns to plan out paths, PWPs, and greenery. I use different patterns to represent different things. I usually have a notepad document on my computer with lists of things I need to do or buy. Right now it's mainly keeping track of ugly items that ended up in my villagers homes because I'm planning on redecorating them. I usually don't care about what is in their houses but I'm running out of things to do in the game lol. I also write down any nice weather conditions I come across while time travelling for potential dream updates. But other than that I don't do much tracking. I keep track of layout-type things with patterns and the rest just comes as I play.. for example, I never keep track of my flowers. I just breed a ton and distribute them as I see fit. Thankfully I've been playing the game long enough that I have complete PWP lists on both towns (one town I restarted and sold the whole town to Nook).

I downloaded the app too, this is going to make my ACNL life so much easier :)
