I get lots of people who contact me looking to trade who are clearly super young, or don't speak English particularly well, and I NEVER want to trade with someone who could end up feeling scammed / doesn't have a good handle on the value of items. I don't want to be mean, but I don't feel comfortable trading with them because some of the DIYs I sell get up there with bids / are very sought after. Any thoughts or strategies?

Tell Them the Truth. Be Upcomeing at you do not feel Comfortable with childern at you are worry they take stuff off your island without asking.

You can simply put an age limit in your trading/sales threads, such as 18+ only buyers please. It doesn't guarantee that you won't get children looking for trades, but it might deter some of them.

just tell them the truth about how much certain items are going for/how you value them, if they don't feel it's fair they don't have to trade you. putting up an age limit is just gonna make them feel worse.
that's true! we wouldn't want to make anyone feel left out... another solution would be to make the prices known up front. That way when people contact you wanting to trade, they already know what your offers are?

like others have suggested, be upfront with them with how much you’re hoping to get in return for an item. if they feel it’s unfair or don’t have the funds, then they’re not obligated to trade with you and by figuring it out beforehand, nobody’s time gets wasted

i agree with this! just tell them how much the item is worth, and if they can't offer that much then that's a perfectly valid reason to deny their trade request.

Say no.

If you don’t feel comfortable trading with kids/teens, set an 18+ limit on your town. Simple

Like others have said, try to be clear on what you expect in the trade but if you really feel uncomfortable with the request, don't feel afraid to deny it!
