How do you get more save slots?

I would really like to change the paths in my town and i've seen one or two that i like, but they all seem to have a lot of different designs to them, and of course for each design you need a place to save it. Since i only have 8 save slots to save designs to, this is very limiting. I know from when i talk to Wendell in dream towns that a lot of players have loads of designs, far more than the 8 i'm limited to. How do you get to have more?

You can make another resident and get talk to Sable until you can use the QR machine and store the paths on that character.

The designs Wendell has probably include the storage slots that the Able Sisters have.

yes, make a "new save file" character. You can have up to 4 player characters total, including your mayor. You might want to plan your characters out to be particular styles with particular houses. it's fun. Like one can be a restaurant house for example. Or one house can be Japanese style.

Keep in mind that if you have the full 4 characters, you cannot do the "reset" trick useful for resetting villager houses and a variety of other things. (if you have 3 characters, not 4, you can still reset)
