I have a second island that I really want to decorate with whatever I want.
I've already decorated an island before and it turned out quite well.
This time I really want to make a flooded island kind of deal.
I'm thinking Cliff sides and a lot of stone kind of like the ancient world. But everyone has modern appliances lol.

How would you figure out what you want to do here?
Thanks for the inputs everybody.

I would normally just look at the things that inspire me, like the games, books and movies that I like most and see what kind of atmosphere I'd want for a certain area.

Since it seems like you already have a theme for the whole island though, I recommend not worrying about the entire island at once, but instead looking at smaller pieces of the puzzle. Start with the airport/island entrance for example, or figure out how you would fit the campsite, museum or shops into your theme. Decorating becomes way easier when you do it in small, manageable steps!

Yeah, like my island is pirate town and do pirates have a state of the art touchless sensor toilets? No, but I still have one, lol.

If you have type of era, you have to think outside the box and that usually takes a lot of tinkering or inspiration from other islands.

I'm more of a real life references type of person. But I do follow a lot of Japanese artists on Twitter, so they'll post screenshots of their islands and I've seen good ideas there.

I think Twitter is a good source of inspiration.

I would start by putting all buildings and houses on the beach that can. Then I'd just let my shovel do the talking in a small part of the island. If
I like what I see I'll move to another area, if I don't like what I see I'll try to fix it to my liking. If that's still not working I'll look at pictures of what I'm going for online for inspiration. Once I've got a feel for what I want, I'll dive right back in and let the creative juices flow. Remeber everything can be changed so there is no way to mess up. Everything can be fixed, or become a happy accident;)
