How do you feel about the hourly music in this version?

It's okay. Most of them I'm indifferent to. There's a few I really don't like (2PM and 5PM mainly). I absolutely love 6PM, it is super reminiscent of Wild World to me.

it's honestly quite boring from a musical standpoint - lots of the new horizons melodies are repeated, just in different keys or instruments. there are some tracks i do like and i don't necessarily dislike the soundtrack, i just think new leaf was a lot more interesting and felt more connected as a whole. a lot of new horizons sounds quite similar and i barely notice when they change (unless they're majorly drastic, like day to night or 2AM to 3AM).
I'm not a big fan of the hourly music so far, though some hours are better than others. I also haven't played at all hours of the day, and I haven't listened to all of the tracks online yet, so there's some music that I haven't heard at all.
On the whole, I find some of it a little grating/annoying. Maybe it's because I don't really care for jazz, and there's a jazz bent to some of it? I ideally want music that's catchy, but that does a good job of blending into the background and not annoying me or distracting me too much. Some tracks do that well, but others are less successful on that front. On the whole, I was definitely happier with the music in prior entries.
The main one I hear with some regularity that I don't care for is 5 pm, I believe. I've been playing later at night all week, so I haven't heard it in a number of days, however. I'm also someone who only plays with volume on some of the time, so if a track annoys me too much, and I don't care about hearing and hunting down balloons or what not, I'll just turn the volume off.

Guess I’m an outlier here, but the hourly music in New Horizons is probably my favorite in the series. I adore the instruments they chose, and the jazzy feel a lot of the tracks have are right up my alley. I find myself humming along to the songs more in this one than any of the other games.

The new songs aren't bad by any means but they're spins on the main theme which got severely overplayed with the commercials imo.
I used to cry with New Leaf's soundtrack, especially the rainy music box themes. They're just kind of... bland in this version. 2AM is a nice track but I've started playing a NL playlist when I'm playing the game. it's a shame because the sound design is really, really good. The music is just... meh.

I like the music in this version. I really like 12pm, 5pm, 6pm, 10pm, and a few others, as well as the ceremony music that plays when you complete a town project. Honestly, the "prologue" music that played for about a week grew on me. I liked how the chill strumming of the music exhibited the sense of humble beginnings on a deserted island. Contrast that with event music, like the Fishing Tourney, that music has louder instruments that reflect the aesthetic of a growing, developing township. I appreciate the contrast of music of when the island is deserted vs the island being more developed.
I like it a lot. I thought New Leaf's music was pretty overall but a bit too safe and characterless, and it looped very quickly so I noticed when it "started over" all the time. New Horizon's loops a bit too quickly too, but it has more of that Population Growing personality that I prefer.
I honestly love it, but its been raining on my island a lot lately so I'm not a huge fan of the rainy music. It sounds like the rainy music is being replaced with a Marimba (?) instead of a Glockenspiel like in past games and it sounds really heavy to me.

i want to turn it off, period... i am not a fan of jazz, nor the pretty much same tune repeated over with only minimal variations at certain hours, and it often sounds like it's a partial bar and some of the notes are painful... like someone learning a song by rote repeating the same thing over and over again. none of those reasons are why i want to turn it off so badly though, no matter how many radios, stereos etc i place... it always manages to clash at some point and drown out the actual music i choose on them. it's obnoxiously loud, can drown out everything else. why are we even collecting kk songs when you move more than a few feet away it clashes?

I do absolutely love NL's soundtrack. The hourly music is amazing. Now that said, I think that I actually like NH's hourly music too. Not as much as NL's, but I think it's something that will probably grow on me. And unlike a lot of people, I think that it actually matches the overall theme, and that the hours go well with the "feeling" of the day. The early morning (8AM on) it's very much upbeat, and I get that whole island feel with it. Mid-day is a lot more "bland" I guess you could say, where things are sort of just... going on. But it's still good, and I still feel like it's island themed in a way. When you hit the afternoon, things start to mellow out, at least as far as I can tell, and it doesn't really have an "island" feel to it so much anymore. It's just sort of... the day is coming closer to the end (at least in terms of work), but there's still a few hours to go. 3PM is I think the hour I like the least. Just... ugh. Now 4PM is when things start to get that evening feel for me. It's not just mellow, it's... ahhhh yeah, let's relax and unwind. You know, until the next hour comes and then it gets funky. Like... are we supposed to be going out on the town or something? Weirdness. Thankfully after that, things get back to that chill vibe, with 6PM actually being one that I really like. 9PM takes things from a good evening feeling to yeah, the night is here.
Now sadly, like most people, I'm not really awake and active during all of the night hours, so I don't get to regularly hear them. And that's a shame, because the music is at its best during the 6PM - 6AM window, minus a few hours (10PM needs to be replaced please). But I think that they did put a lot of thought into things. Overall it could probably be toned down a little bit but... I don't know, I think a lot of it adds character! Maybe we'll all start to gain more of an appreciation for it as time goes on. While the new percussion-y rainy day music is okay, it's not that different sounding to me from the regular version. And most of the hourly music already blends together unremarkably so I'm kinda disappointed in the music so far.
Wishing the game came with an option to mute music but keep sound effects!

It's not too bad. I really like the early morning music, like around 5AM-7AM
It's fine I guess, definitely my least favorite of the series. I feel like they got the hourly soundtracks perfect in WW and CF and haven't been able to capture the same calming atmosphere before or since then. This is my personal ranking:
