How Do Y'all Terraform?

For me, i like to write it down on paper, so I know what I'm about to do. This way, since I'm planning ahead, when I actually start terraforming, I know what I'm doing.

Flattening would be too overwhelming. I like to work off the already given cliffs and carve them into what I want. The final product might be extremely different than the foundation but this method feels more stable.

So I basically like to take map screenshots each time I do a major project. Then I'll do a rough paint over and then use either that 3D planner or the happy island designer to make a more concrete plan. Those become my blue prints.

Even with all this planning, I've torn things down because it doesn't look great in-game. It's just a building process that takes time and anger.

Personally, I would not be able to stand flattening my entire and starting from scratch. It'd drive me nuts, I'd get overwhelmed, and I'd most likely end up starting a new island, lol. When I picked my island map I SPECIFICALLY chose one that had a natural layout I already liked. I've definitely terraformed some, but never more than one area at a time. That'd be too much for me. So, again personally, I wouldn't flatten everything at once. I'd do it piece by piece. Say, finish the museum area first, then the shops, etc. (in whatever order works best) That also has the bonus of, if I change part of my design during the process (which happens ALL the time) and have to re-do work, I have less work to re-do if it do it piece by piece.

ive never terraformed my entire island, but i do know that you should count the blocks. sometimes *and this happens often when you place items or buildings* there will be a space where nothing will line up properly either above or below the placed object sooo counting the blocks is pretty important.

Yeah, unfortunately a map wasn't something I thought about. I spent a good day or so resetting so I had peaches as my native fruit and starter villagers that I actually cared for, so by the end of it I got so tired that I just started choosing a random map. Hence why I'm flattening it

Lol, I understand that. I was so used to ACNL that I was like "I can always get new villagers, but I want a map I can WORK with" even if we had more control in this game. I had specific ideas for areas so I'm looking at each map going, "Where will my house go? What about my spooky forest? Campsite? Shops?" But it worked out for me in the end! Everyone has their own approach to getting their own island, and every unique approach is as valid as the others, which is part of what makes the game so fun ☺

I feel overwhelmed when I look at islands on instagram cos they're all so pretty and well designed. It's like I get sucked a swirling vortex of hyper judging where I am critical of everything about my island. But then I remind myself I'd rather have an island that feels like ME than an island that is instagrammable. So I'm working towards that right now. Choosing to do a project in one small area and working towards that bit by bit.
