Just need some clarification on how villagers move. From what I understand they usually move when you don't talk to them for 7 days in a row.

But what if I spoke to the villager one of those days, does it reset the counter? Am I saving my villager from moving by talking to him/her once every few days?

An also, what counts as talking to the villagers? Do I just talk to them, them press B to cancel out. Or do I have to ask what's the latest, for it to count as talking?

One last thing, does it count as talking to them, when they're busy with an event, such as fireworks, in a store, or the bug catching contest?

I talked to Katt everyday, and then one day, she wanted to move. I don't know why either, I was nice to her. Whenever she asked me to do something, I would do it for her.

But I didn't really like her, so I'm glad she moved.

I'm pretty sure that the villager that moves is completely random regardless of your friendship with the villager. I've had Stitches ask me to move multiple times even though I talk to him everyday. I think people misunderstood when others said that the best way is to ignore the villager when they are already thinking about moving because they can decide to stay even if you tell them to go.

from my experience, you can only introduce yourself to them. do not talk to them at all after that - that means no event/store, cancelling out, etc. in a weeks time, unless another villager is moving out, they will run up to you and say they want to move out.

if you accidentally talk to them, or they run up to you and say they want the Winter Sweater in your inventory instead, make a new character if you don't already have one, introduce that character to the villager, and then log in everyday for a week on that character and don't talk to them. it should reset the cycle.

good luck!

note: of course, that week might go by and a different villager that you do talk to wants to move out and the one you want doesn't ask. that's only because the random cycling of villagers has taken place before the one you're controlling is. keep ignoring the villager you want to move out, it should happen eventually.

Yeah,it does restart the counter if you talk to them, but you can use the character trick that infallible said to get them out fast :D It takes longer than a week if you talk with a villager for a while and then decide to ignore them, rather than introducing yourself once and ignoring them. So using that trick would be your best bet.
I'm pretty sure any kind of talking(even if you press b) counts as talking. I was ignoring Maelle and accidentally talked to her and she just said something about being annoyed I was giving her the silent treatment, so the game doesn't really give you a choice.
Talking during an event also counts, my encounter with Maelle was during the fireworks festival xD
Villagers also want to move out for no reason sometimes, explaining glorianicole12's and peachsoda's posts :)
Good luck :D

I don't want any villagers to move, nor do I care about having dream villagers. I'm trying to prevent moving from occuring, so new villagers won't ruin my town.

I guess having dream villagers is pointless, since they move out anyways eventually

Make one villager your control.

Talk to that one villager every day until they don't want to talk to you anymore. Do this a couple times in the day, once per day if TTing.

If they mention anyone is thinking of moving out go talk to that villager until they prompt you to convince them to stay. Fool just skype me if you need more details.

If you ask them to stay, they're guaranteed to stay. If you let them leave, there's a 75% or so chance they'll leave, and about 25% they'll stay.

So yes, you can keep villagers from moving.

Also, the reason villagers who you talk to every day want to move is because the game is trying to make it hard to get their picture. :P
