Often people sell valuable villagers for a high amount of bells. Because some villagers are worth so much, how does the process work? Does the buyer come to your town and drop the bells? Or is there some other way? I know some villagers can range anywhere from 20mil to 40mil and that's a lot of bells to drop.

I've sold a good amount of villagers, and it's always gone really well. Usually, I'll have the buyer drop the bells in trips to the ABD, but sometimes they'll purchase small items in Re-tail for the price of the villager, that way it'll automatically go into the ABD. The highest amount I've sold a villager for was 20 million, and they paid my in crowns (1 crown sells for 250K at Re-tail).

ABD? Also, what's the highest amount you can make an item in retail?

I believe it's like 999,999 but it's still a lot of trip bc the person can only carry around 1.6 mill not counting letters per trip. Plus you wont see the bells till the next day from retail.

Well for the person dropping bells would most likely rather just dropping the bells then retail bc they have to drop the item they bought and the cycle continues. But for the person selling the may prefer Retail bc they have no room to drop, or they don't want to pick up the bells after. I guess it's user preference.

ABD is the bank. The highest you can put items in retail for is 999,999. I prefer just dropping the bells. Thinking about, the Retail method is a lot better. It's cleaner, and they will always pay the exact amount. I always feel awkward watching the other person make trips. XD

So what would be the best method?

Depends on how much you're selling/buying a villager for. For amounts 1mil or under, just dropping the bells woulld probably be best. For anything higher than that I prefer Re-Tail.

I have another question!
One party has to have an extra empty spot for the trade right? Or villagers being in boxes count as an empty spot (ugh I hope you guys get my question?)

You could either drop down tons of 99,999 Bells or place something (let's say, a piece of fruit) up on Re-Tail and sell them each for 999,999 Bells (easier, imo).

Ehhm...
Let's say that Person A is going to get Person B's villager (let's say...Ruby XP).
So Person B needs to get them in boxes so Person A can get them.
There is still a villager slot, but as soon as Person A gets the villager to go to their town, the house will say "*Villager* has moved". Their house is still there, so I guess it's still a slot...

Villagers being in boxes does not count as an empty spot! A vacant house with "moved out" does not count as an empty spot either!
Someone trading MUST have 9 or less villagers or it won't work. If you both have 10, no one can start the trade because neither can accept another villager.
