i've had this problem SO many times. i'm busy most of the time so i only play around breaks or summer. it's why i've been a member for so long but have few posts (in correlation to my time here at least)
just find new things to do. restart, try landscaping, breeding, cycling, finding new villagers or redecorating your house. maybe make a new character to play on if you are too attached to your town!!
I found it helpful to pick a new theme for my town to aim for and take a few months off. I came back to it like it was a new game and I had fresh goals to aim for. Sometimes a good long break is exactly what you need to refresh yourself, I've done this with games besides animal crossing for months or sometime even a year or two. If you force yourself to play a game after it stops being fun then you really burn out on it.
As lizzy541 suggested, I think getting new villagers is one of the best things to help rekindle your interest in ACNL; getting used to seeing new villagers around town is the best xD
Making tweaks to town layouts without TT-ing is challenging (patience-wise) but more rewarding as well.
You have to play everyday and take it slow. If there's an item you could possibly get, example would be an island item, dont just buy it from here. Try and find it yourself! c:
I fell out of interest with the game for a while, but recently decided (because my husband bought me a New 3DS with Isabelle face plates) to pick it up again. I have decided to landscape my town. It is going to take a while, but I want it to be beautiful. Also, becoming friendly with all of my neighbours is really a lot of fun, and keeps me going back : )
Just try not to put any pressure on yourself. I find that ruins the game quite a bit.
I didn't play for about a year because of losing interest and I ran into this same problem a few months back. I find its interesting with AC, the replay value is endless since it's virtually an endless game, but I find I get uninterested in it easily and don't play for months
Anyway, I had to restart my town which is what got me back into it. But I think just setting new goals and things to do for your town helps. Maybe try to achieve all the badges? Or redecorate your house trying to complete sets? Other examples are; try to get dreamies or villagers you want, create a theme or certain look or your town and try to get certain PWPs requested, breed hybrids, start finding items people want and trade with them.
It's hard to get back into it, I remember I almost had to force myself to play a few times. But hope this helps!!
It really does help to have a goal. I don't try to do everything at once, so I know that I have things to look forward to. I recently worked really hard to get my town ready for a dream town. It's pretty much done, but I'm sure I'll still tweak it a bit over time. Now, I'm working on my dream town badge and getting a uchi and peppy villager so I can finish off my PWP list (I really want the fairytale bridges and windmill). I still have quite a few badges to work on in the future, and there's always island items I'm looking for.
When I feel like I'm losing my love for playing, I just revisit the game and take it slow. I'd listen to what everybody else here has to say-landscape, bring in new villagers, etc.. It helps to keep the game new and interesting every time!
