Ok so, I have a rainbow entrance and mums are the only type of flower with green so i rlly need it.

I saw a guide that you should breed Purple mums and another guide that you should breed Yellow Mums. No luck. Super confused. Does the mums need a special DNA like required to make blue rose?

Thanks.

Hi, can’t help with the growing of hybrids but I have 5 green mums you can have for free?

Yes, you have to breed yellow and red together then you can get a yellow one. Duplicate it or wait for another one, then pair them and together they can produce purple/green.
I want to share a useful guide but the file is too big, I'll try later...

Thank you! I might try that and see..

Yes, as the poster above said:

Step 1: Breed store-bought red mums x store-bought yellow mums = hybrid yellow mums
Step 2: Breed hybrid yellow mums x hybrid yellow mums = hybrid purple mums or green mums
Step 3: Breed hybrid purple mums x hybrid purple mums = green mums

Note that regular purple mums (which you get by breeding white mums x white mums) will not produce green mums. :(

I've been working on getting green mums for well over a month now, and I still only have two of them. It's a slow process because the hybrid yellows often just make more yellows, which is a bit frustrating.

Go onto the Nook's Cranny part of this website and wait until someone's selling / giving them away!

:ROFLMAO:

This is definitely the way! Though you need to use a layout that prevents cloning so you know that your "special yellows" are truly special yellows and not just a regular one.

Oh, this is fascinating and so handy - thank you!!

Now I can't help but wonder whether the reason my mums are taking so long is because some yellows are clones, and thus not hybrids at all... I had completely forgotten that flowers could clone themselves! I think I need to put up some blockers/fences around my double-diamond flower patches...

You're very welcome! I used the IP Condensed layout, then put the purples into Independent Pairs, and then once I had a good amount of green mums, I started cloning them using the Cloning Grid to get even more. :)

Ooh, that sounds promising! At which stage did you use the IP Condensed layout? When you were creating hybrid yellows?

I'm definitely going to use the Independent Pairs and then Cloning layouts once I get a few more purples and greens!

Yep, I put the store-bought red and yellow mums into that layout. I used red and yellow tulips as the second species in the layout, because I was also working on getting purple tulips and it saves space. As long as it's not more mums it doesn't matter what other pair you use, as far as I understand. It's also totally fine to just use the Independent Pairs layout to get your special yellows, if you're not working on another hybrid or something. :) Another bonus with IP Condensed is that it looks quite pretty while you have it set up!

Thanks for the explanation! That does sound like a good idea, and should save me a lot of space compared to my current layout (which is each species separately). Like you said, I bet it'll look nice, too!

Now I just ahve to wait for Leif to show up with mums again. Thanks for all your help! :D
