So I'm extremely burnt out on this game and no matter what I do I can't seem to get back into it. You could just say take a break but ive been on one for months now. I want to play again. But when I get on I just don't feel like doing anything and I close the game. I've reset my island for a 2nd time now and now I'm on the beginning tutorial thingy and I want to play even less. I miss my first fully developed island. Did I just.. ruin the game completely for me?

Maybe just timetravel through the tutorial part until you get the camper? That's what I would do if I restarted. Then I would just play normally and limit myself to an hour or two total play time a day to not get burned out
Maybe. But what happened last time was I did all that and then once I had all the villagers i wanted I got tired of playing again because I was too lazy to start removing stuff so I can work on my island, annoyed with the fact my catalogue and diys from my previous island were gone, I just felt like it'd never be as good as my first one. Its just ahh

A couple of other things you can do is just set limits and play animal crossing on "hard mode". Like you don't have to do all of these things and just pick out the ones that think you help
  • Set a goal for the day (new fishes, bugs, decorate a small area, decorate your house, etc)
  • No buying villagers, you have to find them yourself
  • Only equal trade for items (no buying from the giant tbt shops)
  • Only pay with nmts and igbs for trades
  • Clear out a mystery island of resources a day

TBH, the times I've restarted games (I restart them frequently, though I've only restarted ACNH once, before fully finishing the tutorial, on the day after release), I often get that feeling when having to replay a tutorial section. Usually I just push through the tutorial and feel better and more excited afterwards. But sometimes that feeling of, "Oh... right, I've gotta do all THIS again..." can be overwhelming. But, for me, it passes the more I play.

It might help to look at other islands for inspiration. Look at pictures online or check out DAs (I'm guessing you didn't have access to the Dream Suite right away when you started, since it's quite new- maybe remind yourself what else you have that's new? Like, were you able to dive when you first started? If not, it'll be neat to be able to early on- it could really help pay off loans, for instance) and see what kinds of islands you like. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming if you want to make your island cool and you're just starting... but, remember. It gives you more or less a blank state- you can look take inspiration from other islands and start working towards making your islands exactly how you want it right from the start. Pay special attention to things you like you DIDN'T have on your first island- and then work towards them! Your island isn't as fancy as your old island right now... 'cause you just started! But it still has the POTENTIAL to be better than ever, even if there's a bit of a slog at the very beginning.

A positive thing about restarting now is that a lot of people have fuller catalogues and lots of extra diys laying around, so it might be easier to catch up to what you had before or more! People are generous and do a lot of giveaways, especially on these forums.

I think having a theme in mind might help a lot, too. Something different or better than your old island and that gives you something concrete to work towards. I find that I'm most inspired and want to play when I have a project in mind... just logging in to catch bugs or fish can get a little boring, sometimes.

That actually sounds like an amazing idea- I might try that

Hm, you're right. I might time travel through the tutorial and go from there

Yeah, I haven't thought of a theme yet so I should think about that lol

I got burnt out for a month as well mostly due to terraforminng and not having any inspiration but feeling like I needed to push through and get it done, but instead just found myself not playing. When I returned a month later I vowed to just spend time how I see fit for whatever mood I was in and I've been playing everyday again.

Another huge thing that keeps me engaged in the game is always making sure I have something to look forward to tomorrow, whether it's the furniture I've ordered from the catalog of finishing up decorating an area. The anticipation really helps you play longterm, which is why I never time travel.

Oh, definitely. I mean, I TT anyways, but even if you don't I'd at least do it for the tutorial.
Also, if you're interested in getting the seasonal/holiday DIYs you might've missed, it's worth mentioning that you can TT for holidays that have passed. For instance, you can go back to Bunny Day 2020 if you want those DIYs.
Heck, maybe playing during a season you haven't previously could give you more interest! Just throwing it out there.

I think for me it's dependant on the ppl around me. If they're excited I tend to be as well. I tried posting inspirational thread to get ppl excited but it's not welcomed here.

My other suggestion is to set goals. What you're looking to accomplish and stick to it. Whether it's a themed island, a haunted house, or to complete achievements. It's my drive to play.

One thing I did because I reset after getting all my villagers is I'm limiting myself on how many I can keep. No "10 final dreamies" for me. I get X amount and the rest cycle. Maybe through the ones I like. Maybe eventually through every villager at least once.

It just comes down to if you have fun with the game or not. I don't think there is a proven method of getting back into something you've lost joy for. I don't time travel, but when I was catching up from a week of not playing, I found time traveling to make the game not that fun. I used to time travel in previous games, too. But I think for you to really get back into the game, that's going to just have to come naturally.

oh gosh it sucks that u reset but hopefully u like ur new map and it gives u ideas

i was really burnt out last month and i just went on acnh to talk to my villagers and check stores but i was playing other games. eventually recently i actually started playing more and getting ideas and redecorating so its been fun

maybe just let urself play in little bursts and maybe make a pintrest or tumblr where u can gather inspiration pictures to get a clearer picture of what u would want to do

but yeah like dont beat urself up for feeling burnt out its something everyone is going through

honestly I got burned out at one point and was contemplating resetting but then I just changed my theme. guess what? I’m back to playing hours upon hours a day lmao
