I?ve been thinkibg about this for a while, so I figured I?d ask. I have two lazy villagers (bob and biskit) and two cranky villagers (del and lobo) and they seem to act nothing alike. This may just be my perception, but it seems like lobo is more generally cranky and old-man-like, while del is more ditsy and bubbly, while bob is more generally lazy and biskit is more cheery and cutsey. How is this determined? Does each villager have their own personality outside of the labeled ones? Am I just crazy? Lol.
i'm not entirely sure myself, but i think all personalities are essentially the same with the same dialogue. some dialogue does differ, like sometimes a lazy villager will tell me something about themselves while another lazy won't, but at their core, they're all the same
As far as I know, all villagers of the same personality share the same potential dialog, but I have still felt a difference between certain villagers even if they were the same personality. For me, the biggest variations were between my uchi villagers. Pashmina was kind of stuck up and snobbish. Hazel was a very down-to-earth tomboy. Paula was cheerful and friendly.
I think there are a few reasons why we may see a character differently even if they're working with the same set of dialog.
1. Basic RNG. Some villagers may say certain dialog more than others. I don't think it's programmed in, but just luck of the draw. If some villagers favor certain lines over others or use those lines in a different context, it can change our perception of them. The same thing happens when a beloved villager moves out and you scan their Amiibo card to get them back. Some people have said that the villager just isn't the same after that.
2. Their aesthetic. I think the way a villager looks and dresses, the way their house is decorated, and their gestures and facial expressions can give us a different feeling. Villagers can say the exact same thing, but we read into their body language and style and it can make the same phrase have a different feeling for us. Imagine somebody saying something sarcastically and then someone saying the same thing cheerfully. They may have used the same words, but you take their meaning differently because of their expression and tone of voice. I think we do the same thing with our villagers, too.
I know I'm probably overanalyzing things, but it's what I do. I think about this kind of thing every time someone says that two villagers are essentially the same because they have the same personality. And I think that in my experience, no they are not.
This makes sense but oldy enough i think bob acts more “adult” than biskit, and yet bob’s house is kiddie themed and miskit’s is more refined haha. But based off of that youre saying, I might be interperetting that based on how they look. Biskit does look more like a child than bob haha
While you can have multiple villagers with the same personality and dialogue, you can get them to talk to each other and have unique dialogues that won't be otherwise possible without the same personality.
I feel the same way, I have two cranky villagers in my town Tom and Kabuki and I feel like they are very different from each other. Kabuki is was more loving and caring and Tom is more stand-offish. However, I feel like there is probably so much potential dialogue for the personality types to tap into, that you get different senses of each one?s personality based of which set of dialogue come to you. I like it, because it really does make them seem unique.
