Right now I am on a mission to get to 100 mill, and thought Id ask how you did it?
How did you reach the 100 mill?

The fastest way is to sell TBT. Now the rate is about 20 mil per 100 TBT, so 500 TBT will get you all the way there. I made mine by selling items in the threads here. You can make a lot just by selling things like cedar saplings and bush starts which you can buy every day. If you want to do it yourself, then beetle hunting on the island and turnip selling are the best ways to make bells.
I actually never knew that TBT could go for so much... time to save up then so all my savings don't go towards my house loans!
You can always do a good ol' fashioned beetle-and-shark hunt in the island. I personally chop down every non-palm tree and only go on the hunt for the beetles that appear on the palm trees or the sharks. If it's a goliath beetle though, I chase it away since it's only worth 6k compared to the 8-12k beetles that appear with it, and if my "shark" happens to be an ocean sunfish, I release that baby so, so fast, as it's only worth a measly 3k.
A full basketload of worthy beetles and a few sharks brings me an average of over 300k bells per trip. If you want to reach 100 million faster, it's not the most efficient way, but its a good way to save up towards it.
I'd recommend this selling TBT method, since I'm gonna start doing that now too.

I used to do lots of beetle hunting and selling perfect fruit in other towns (or my own if none of my friends were on). Selling loads of rare/unorderable items is also good since I'm a massive hoarder. You could still do the stalk market by selling turnips. Reddit, tumblr, and here seems to be somewhat active about posting prices, not as much as before, but you know it's been a while since the game's been release. I'm not sure how well that's gonna go though, but that's what I used to do. I sold a whole locker full and got 30 million before so yeah. Giveaways are also another way to go if you win. Just enter and cross your fingers lol

I got to about 70 million catching/selling island bugs, and selling some stuff on the Re-Tail forum here. I eventually got bored of doing that, so I sold tbt to get to the 100 million mark for my gold badge 
I become a hoarder in summer months.
Island trips give me north of 100K per trip (usually...250-400k) if I'm picky about what I take home. Anywhere between 3-4 trips gives me 1 million so I just do that a few more times. I also cash in on my orchards (perfect and normal), sell my gems I get from rocks, nab all the money from the money rock, and wander town for balloon presents to sell, stuff in trees, sell my house...

Sorry for being a noob, but what does TBT stand for? I'm not too savvy when it comes to the New Leaf jargon, hehe.
I'm bad at saving money(I build up a lot and then lose it on house expansions), but I get most of it from beetle hunting. Some day I'll be rich too...some day...*sigh*

TBT is the forum currency. You can see how much you have underneath your avatar, where it says Bells (currently you have 778). You earn it by posting, and you can transfer it to other users for various reasons--for example, there's an entire board dedicated to TBT trades and shops.

The most I ever had was 50 million. I keep starting new towns and spending all my bells. I probably will never get 100 million.
