Was choosing new eyebrows today and found the hairstyle that appears after you've been gone a couple months! I don't know if I'm extraordinarily unobservant, but I just saw this now! It's so cute and reminds me of my IRL hair!

That's why! After TTing a long time, your character will come out of their house with messy hair and will yawn, then look surprised, then quickly fix their hair (and put back on any hats they're supposed to be wearing). As soon as you get this animation, you unlock the hairstyle!

I havent unlocked it yet, but my brother stopped playing his island for like a month or something and when i opened his island the other day his character had it. I wish there was some way he could share it with me like how we can trade stuff lol.

I do not time travel, but I did so just to unlock this hairstyle. I don't really think you'll 'progress' much just by jumping back ~15 days and forward ~15 days.

That's been my player character's default hairstyle ever since I unlocked it. I had to tt because I was using the campsite method to get a certain office cat. Three days of my life that I'm never getting back.
