How close can inclines go to eachother?

Trying to create access to my secret beach from my house on the third level of cliffs, and want to figure out if I'll be able to put the two inclines on a corner close to eachother, rather than having one long staircase - really frustrating as can't progress with design till I've figured it out! Please and thank you!

I have two inclines just one tile away from each other to create a stair look for my museum so very close

I think there needs to be one space around the incline in order for it to work, but that's just something I'd assume. I never tried putting two inclines close together so take that with a grain of salt.
