I'm sitting here planning out my town via amiibo cards and one from trading .. I'm trying to make a mix of all personalities with two normals. Does it really help to have every personality type? Do you have every type in your town?
I have one of every type in my town. The variety keeps me from getting bored with conversation, especially in situations where some people have more than two of one type, and they're all the villagers that are wandering around outside... Yeah. Duplicate conversations get boring quick.
Also, certain personality types are needed for certain public works project requests. For instance, Cranky villagers are the only characters that will request things like the Zen Bench.
It helps if you want to unlock all PWPs since they are tied to personality types. It also gives you variety in dialogue. If you have unlocked all PWPs or you don't care about those things, then there would be nothing wrong with not having each personality type. I included each personality type for my dreamies because of those two reasons
I have all personalities in my town. Two are lazy and two are cranky. It's beneficial if you want to unlock all the PWP's. I'm currently in the process in doing so right now. If there's a specific public work project you want, make sure to only talk to that villager with that personality type to at least guarantee you will get a pwp from that category. I use the diving trick. I know this is kind of mean, but I trap the villager so they can't move (That way, I don't have to get the megaphone out and call their name to find them.) If they don't ping you, go back in the water for 5 minutes and try again. Hope this helps!
You can move them out once you have completed their pwp requests. Like say, you aren't fond of jocks but you want the pwps, move one in temporarily until you get all of his request then move him out XD
I like having each type of personality because of the variety in conversations and the fact that you can't get all PWP's without having each one. Like I couldn't stand being in a village with all smug villagers. I hate smug villagers in the first place (Chadder and Quillson ruined it for me), but I still have them because they have PWP requests I need. c:
It depends if you have one town or more than one. I have an all wolf town which are many cranky makes (5) smug Kyle and normal Skye are my different ones the other gems are all snooty but I didn't start the town that way I completed it the way I wanted before I made it all one type and I have other towns more diverse so that works but with one town and not all pwps you want yet I recommend starting with them all unless one type has no pwps you would want the jocks do t typically have ,any I want the Uchis and peppies/norms typically had what I wanted aside some cranky stuff. But to have them all as options is ok. The dialogue does get repetitive but at different friendship levels I find my relationships with them change and then the dialogue does too from the beginning.
Another reason is that with more variety, they want to stay more. Say if you had 4 normals, they would be the ones that always want to move out because the game wants all villager types.
I only had one of each when I was unlocking pwps. Now I don't bother, just go for who I like. Probably wouldn't mind if I had a town full of smugs to be honest
I have four lazies right now and the conversations get pretty boring. I love all of them, so it's hard for me to pick, but I talk to my villagers a lot so I'd like a bit more variations. They also all go to bed and wake up around the same time. I've been ill and sleeping very poorly the last few weeks and it kinda sucks that half of my town just goes to bed all of a sudden so more personalities would help with that. As the others have mentioned it helps with PWPs too, altho I personally don't really care.
Two biggest reasons to have at least one of every personality type in your town(s):
1. The ability to unlock every PWP.
2. Trying to cut down on repetitive dialogue, especially with the Normal and Lazy types, since I feel they're two of the blandest personalities with their dialogue.
