house arrangements

im trying to decide on how i want to have my houses laid out in my island, and i do wanna make my villager yards this time, so im looking for placement inspo...what have you guys done?

this is my map (well, actually it has changed a bit since I posted this on the island map thread, but the villager houses are the same haha)! I had a lot of trouble figuring out where to place the villager houses, and I went through many terraforming disasters before I arrived at this.

I made an extremely crappy sketch of how they're laid out haha

essentially I left 1 empty tile to the left of the house plot, and 3 tiles to the right. the entire plot is 7 tiles tall (3 tiles from the house + 4 tiles for the yard). this isn't counting the tiles taken up by the fencing.

I initially had all the houses set up in a very organized, symmetrical neighborhood but then I changed them all up to create a more chaotic setting, but i like it.

Here is a map of my island. The gardens of my villagers are pretty small. I am thinking about making some changes, since I started on the houses and gardens before Leif appeared. My issue is mostly space and where to put everything. Gardens are 7x8 (including the brick fencing)

If I made any chances, I would likely have 6 houses on the right instead of 8, and have them completely surrounded by brick fencing and hedges. The other 4 villager houses would go somewhere else. The gardens would also be a bit bigger, so there would be 2 space on each side of the house. Or maybe I would go for 3x1 space.

I am personally not a fan of lined up houses, but I did want to give villagers their own yard.

I gave them little yards, each with a fruit tree and 2 flowers, also try giving them a fence that match the house exterior style. Then I try to personalise their yards according their interior or anything they mentioned in their conversation.

Still work in progress because I feel like I haven’t got the most suitable furniture for them.

i wanted to avoid too much fencing since it has a "structured" look that i didn't want—there's just a bunch of furniture strewn out in front of my villagers' houses in attempt to give them personality c':

thisss makes me wants to have villagers with yards even though i've got them all in a straight line rn with 3 spaces betweenAHHH
