Homestuck Thread

I am asking earnestly, how did it acquire such a huge following? Did that many people really suffer through that insufferable introduction? Who got far enough to decide it was any good, and how did so many people agree to check it out?

Honestly, I read it at the recommendation of my friends. The plot picks up from there, but it really is an unnecessarily long beginning. Titi's right though, the trolls are where a lot of people picked it up, which pissed off older fans since they didn't understand stuff that happened before the trolls.

The beginning is totally necessary though. It sets the whole style of the comic: The chat system, the game, the relationship between the kids, the interactivity... It's tedious at first but necessary. Sort of like the first 2 seasons of Game of Thrones lololol.

I actually enjoyed the beginning the most out of everything. I enjoyed the relationships between the kids a lot and thought the introduction of the trolls kind of ruined it. Like you said, it's just tedious haha.

I feel like a Tutorial in a video game shouldn't last more than a few minutes, let alone a 100+ page comic tutorial X_x

AND HEY, first 2 seasons of GoT were awesome you troll! :P

I don't think any specific point "ruined" homestuck... It just got way too complex and sort of redundant. Too many time lines, characters (although the ministrife still remains so memorable and awesome) and the sight of the kid's actual objective got out of sight. It became a never ending nightmare futuristic version of a spaghetti western haha. That combined with long repeated breaks lost the interest of the fandom and they moved on to other things. Like OFF. And God knows where they're at now. I was never really part of the fandom outside of the MSPA forum where actual discussion of the storyline went on. Outside of that seemed to be all about ships.

Well it's more than a tutorial. I agree that it's really hard to get through but it's so worth it. It's like the way to get your official homestuck membership hahaha! But really now that I look back the first few acts were really interesting content wise, just too slow. There was real effort in the setting up of the plotline.

And come one who are we kidding here the first 2 seasons were boring. XD

I definitely agree with the plot becoming overly complex. Honestly the thing that wound up ruining it (for me personally) was the amount of characters that he tried to cram in. The Alpha trolls felt like rehashes of the original trolls with slight variations--and I'm pretty sure that was the point, but... why? Why not have more original characters, or add none at all if you're going to do that?

Idk I feel like HS had a great deal of potential that, like you said, got lost in the expanding plot and multiple timelines.

all I can say is that I'm glad that there is a really good let's read of it
because it keeps my interest more then reading it myself lol, also it's nice to be able to listen
to it while I'm doing other things.

not to mention they got some really good voice actors for the characters.

I still giggle when I remember my old friend
and how she was like oh no homestuck is boring I can't get into it
and now she's a huge fan and has tons of fantroll characters and even a tumblr fantroll
blog and does Homestuck rps.

and just one more thing I have to say my most fave thing about Homestuck is the music
holy crap is a lot of the music amazing

Anyways it had a good run, I still like to look back at some stuff when I stumble upon it and it's good to see that stuff is still being made, like that fan made rex duodecim angelus scene which is so great because the fact that we never got to see it (it was only explained) was so frustrating.
I'll probably still play the game if they ever actually release it since I've pretty much paid for it already. Not sure what to expect from it though.

Wow I didn't even know there was a lets read for HS.
Doesn't that take a lot of the fun away? Like, with all the chat styles and written puns and whatnot.

When is the game supposed to be released? I remember the Kickstarter for it but I don't remember the exact dates they had put down for it (Also sorry if I annoyed you, I wasn't trying to be argumentative).

Well, you like super cool things, so I'll take your word for it. But if I spent 2 hours reading garbage for nothing, I'll come haunt you when I die of boredom.

And you really think so? :O Season 1 had me REALLY hooked, and I loved Season 2!

I have no idea for the game. They had announced it for beginnings of 2014 originally if I remember well (I was a kickstarter donator) but they also promised regular updates which I personally have never recieved. I recieved my merch that was part of the donation bundle and never heard from them again. I don't keep up anymore but I don't even know if the game is still a thing. Kinda feels like we were ripped off, considering the final amount of the kickstarter was 2million dollars + I think, not inlcuding the paypal donations that came after that. Pretty disgraceful on their behalf.

edit: Yeah 2.4mil https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/14293468/homestuck-adventure-game

Oh you didn't annoy me at all, dunno where you got that impression. Just a regular ol' conversation yeah? No beef.

I don't know if getting into HS I worth it now hahaha! Reading it all through without any update waits would be torture. But suit yourself I guess. XD

Eh GoT got me a bit bored at first because not so much action but it was still decent, I'm not hating on it or anything haha.

I have some friends who still keep up with it, so from what they've told me, I understand that the game is still supposed to be happening? But supposedly he also wanted to post the ending to the comic before the new year and then work on the game (IIRC). I really don't know what's happening on that front, but I find it interesting that they haven't updated the people who funded it. :/

They're still workin' on it
games just don't happen like that they do take time

not to mention they're still also workin' on finishing up the comic
and plans on submitting it all of it on one single day which is why this gigapause is so long
so they have a lot to work on.

You guys do realize it's been a week since the... 8th or 9th month anniversary of the gigapause?

whoooa. guess i don't have that much to catch up to, then

i thought it had been going on for like 4 months only ahaha, guess not

That's not the problem here. The problem is that they announced it for earlier and we have no update or reason for the delay. Delay is understandable, lacking to inform the people interested in the game, especially those who made it possible through funding, is not acceptable.
