I've planted some bushes as you see here, but there was this one bush that didn't wanna grow? I've re-planted it a few times, watered it a lot and it still keeps dying... I don't know why, since the other bushes are fine, because I first thought it was too close to the house??

*** Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? x_x ***

That can't be it because i have more bushes than on the picture, it goes more to the right.. I think it's 15 or 16 bushes in total

I could be wrong..

But I've heard somewhere that NL still used the acre system to an extent, and when theres too many bushes in a certain area, they won't grow anymore. Just like with trees, when you make an orchard, there will always be a couple that don't grow for that reason.

Again, I could be wrong. This is just what I've heard in the past

*sob* soo even if i ruin the entire thing and plant all of them over again it still won't work?

I think you have to replant them all day by day so it will work but I'm not sure that fixes the dead spot

it annoys me so much not being able to fill that spot in x_x i'll rather just dig them all up and plant new ones another place ;_;

If I recall correctly, dead spots are made-up rumours by players that don't understand the mechanics behind plants.

There is more to the bush/tree growing system than the so-many-in-a-row rule. They also check a pretty large area around them (lik 5x5 or even 7x7 or something crazy like that) for other trees and bushes - Probably what mitzi referred to as the acre system.

For example: You are making a 5x5 orchard of perfect apple trees. You can have 9 there, of course:

x_x_x
_____
x_x_x
_____
x_x_x

The middle one dies, so you go to replant it, right? It will check the area around it, and find eight trees already, so it decides its acre is occupied and dies a dry and lonely death. Next day, it will be dead.

So why? What happened to the middle spot that it suddenly became infertile? More importantly, how was it ever allowed to grow the first time around?

It all depends on the order they were planted in. Chances are that the middle tree had was planted before its neighbours: Try imagining replacing a tree that isn't the middle one, and check a 5x5 or 7x7 around it. You're not going to find eight trees, even if you replace one in the sides you will only have five neighbours.

Same goes for bushes, they will check around them, see that they are unwanted, and shrivel to a twig. Trouble is that noone seems to know exactly what the conditions are, and how to avoid them - but generally, the order matters.

So plant them one at a time, one per day, and from A to B only - That will optimize your chances.

Teal deer: If you're trying to plant a bush with two plants to either side, I don't think it'll ever work. It might if you redo a bunch of it.

If you're trying to have 15 or 16 touching, then it's never going to grow. Ever. Like Tessie said, you can only have 12 (at the most) touching. That also includes trees. I'm assuming that you planted all of them at the same time, so if that's the case, the game chose one in the middle to die. So if you want a bush in that spot, pick a different spot for there to be an empty space. But no matter what, you have to have an empty space (basically a buffer space around the WHOLE row/arrangement of bushes) after 12 bushes.

And btw, watering trees/bushes won't make them have any better chance of growing. c:

Something weird like this happened to me once where I planted two cedar saplings and neither of them grew, but then I planted two bamboo shoots in the same area and they grew. So idk the game must have some glitches.

Cedar saplings will only grow in the upper half of your town.

OHHHH!!! Thank you I had know idea! :lemon:
