Hi everyone, glad to be here, just looking to meet others playing New Horizons, get tips, etc. I'm one of the older folks here, at 50. Curious to see how many others close to my age are playing. This is my first time playing any of the Animal Crossing games, and the relaxed pace is really nice. I've been gaming for a long time, all the way back to Donkey Kong and a whole bunch of other cool games in the arcade, and have had NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PC games, Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, and now the Switch. I couldn't find anything in PC games that was laid back like Animal Crossing so I decided to get a switch a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying it.

Other than video games, I'm into mountain biking, am always up for talking about cars, motorcycles, planes, boats, etc, movie buff, a bit of a foodie and enjoy sharing food ideas, although I'm a bit lazy about cooking stuff myself. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hello! What a great introduction! Welcome to TBT! I look forward to seeing you around and hope you enjoy it here.

Welcome to TBT!

There's a thread here called "How old are you?" if you dare cast your vote and peruse!

Do you think you'll play any of the remastered games from older consoles? I'll admit I'm no expert on the older systems, but I know there's a remastered Donkey Kong, and I really liked the remastered Crash Bandicoot games.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your stay! 😊

I'll give the age thread a shot. :)
edit: I went there and there are actually a few people in 45-50 and 51+! It's a big drop after 35 years old though, a bit more than I expected.

So yes... the remastered games... I got my Switch before my NH game and so the NES and SNES games got downloaded that night. The short answer is that NH is taking enough of my time that I'll probably be dedicated to it for a while. It's very enjoyable.

I didn't play a whole lot of the old games on the Switch, though. I usually got into driving/racing games, so Stunt Race FX for the SNES was one that I went to right away, and another one I liked was Micro Machines for the NES but I didn't see that on there. Donkey Kong Country for the SNES is one that I have fond memories of as well, and IIRC the N64 or Gamecube version was pretty good as well. I did play Pitfall a little bit on SNES years ago, but I'd keep going to the warp that let me play the old Atari 2600 version of it, and never got too far in the SNES version. I'll have to see if they're available.

I also remembered playing Pac-Land in the arcade and that was included with Namco Museum 2, so I bought that but the old games don't display right on the new TVs. The old CRTs would skip every other line (I think it's called rasterizing), so that gave it some "fuzziness" that made the colors blend a bit and the graphics look more smooth. The controls for Pac-Land were all weird too, using the a and b buttons for left and right, and moving the left joystick to jump. Really confusing. The colors in Pac-Land are hideous by todays standards as well. I'm sure there are YouTube videos available to give you a glimpse, if you're curious. One thing that I appreciated was that I got to check out a lot of the old NES and SNES games that I was curious about because they had fancy artwork on the cases, and I was reassured that the games weren't anything I felt I had missed.

Thanks for the friendly welcome!

Welcome! I grew up playing on those same consoles and it’s nice to see others recalling them fondly. I just hit my 30s and I am gaming more now than even when I was kid playing on my NES. What has been your favorite thing about the Animal Crossing series so far?

Thanks Tiffani. :) My favorite thing is that it's a fun game with a relaxing pace. The environment is happy, and there's a lot of stuff to stay occupied with. They add just enough challenge to keep it interesting, like the items breaking after being used a certain amount of time, needing to find materials to craft, etc, but it's also versatile to where if I don't feel like progressing much and just want to fish for a while or dive for sea creatures, I can. I'm still new, so I'm sure there will be more things come up that I appreciate about it.

@tiffanistarr what's your favorite part of the game?

Here is a tip that you might or might not know about, when you dig up a bell hole in acnh you can plant bells to make a bell tree to get extra bells. Welcome to the forums and hope to see you around :D. You said your a foodie what's your opinion on ramen ?

Ramen is freakin awesome if done well. Instant ramen can be interesting to experiment with too, though. I always liked Udon more, especially the kitsune udon with the fried tofu skin.

That is a great tip, thanks!

Agreed, I liked ramen when I was younger but I just started watching naruto and now I have a whole different perspective of it XD. what's your favorite part of it? The narutomaki, the noodles, the veggies, etc?

Hard to say if I have a favorite part of it, it all goes together well, the meat, if added, the veggies, the flavor of the soup, and the noodles. Probably the noodles if I had to narrow it down to one thing.

Yea that's true, it all mixes in perfectly. Man now I want ramen. It was nice talking to you 😊

Heck yeah, he's got some great songs. At the moment, "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" is stuck in my head. A few that I like are "Born to Run", "Glory Days", and "I'm on Fire". Which ones do you like?
My favorite is "Badlands", I just love it, it's so great, and it has such an America feeling to it. "Born to Run" is my second favorite - I also like the other ones you mentioned and "Dancing in the Dark".

Now I have Bandlands stuck in my head and will probably need to listen to it on repeat a few times haha.
